I attended the memorial yesterday (June 21st) in Lansing,
Michigan
Many of Sabu's family was there including his sister
Pauline, nephews Moses & Joseph Fernandez, and many others.
Maple Pro Wrestling Scott D'Amore attended along with
wrestlers Mickey Doyle, Monty Brown, and many local
wrestlers.
There was a group of 5 guys who was trained by The Sheik in
Sabu's class. There was Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Sampson, Judge
Dread, and Tommy Starr.
Sampson and Dread shared many stories of the early days in
training with Sabu. Wrestler Jimmy Jacobs shared a story of
his match vs Sabu when he was just 19 years old.
Referee Brian Gorie shared on how Sabu was the man who made
him fall in love with pro wrestling.
Joey Janela also spoke and shared his memories of having
Sabu's last match.
JR Coates who is the brother of Melissa Coates gave a
emotional speech about his sister and her relationship with
Sabu and his friendship with Sabu after Melissa passed away.
Rob Van Dam was on last and gave a tearful but powerful
eulogy to his best friend.
