AS I SEE IT May 19: Reaching the summit, bad TNT tech, more weekend wars, grandstanding, and more....

Yesterday saw the announcement that Darby Allin indeed
reached the summit of Mt. Everest at 8:30 am local time with
the statement:

8:50 am local time summit!

Good weather was in our favor, but many teams took advantage
of the short window as well, which slowed our progress more
than expected.

Darby Allin, USA
Ang Dorjee, Sherpa Nepal/USA 24th summit
Pasang Bhote, Nepal 14th summit
Tashi Thundu Sherpa Nepal 12th summit
Pemba Sherpa Nepal 2nd summit

The team will savor their moment on the top, and start the
return to Camp 4".

There's also this very morning a picture of Allin and his
group "planting" an AEW flag (for a second) on Mt. Everest.

Congratulations to Darby and the team with him. Good
thoughts as you and your group descend the mountain.

Saturday night featured a major technical debacle with the 8
pm East and West Coast feed of Collision, cutting off the
show only 90 minutes in, leaving off the last two matches.
The issue was blamed on an issue with "studio transmission
and delivery". There was a secondary issue with TrillerTV
unrelated to the TNT issue. Triller TV has now aired a
complete feed.

Toy Khan says the episode will be available in its entirety
on MAX as soon as things are fixed. For those who'd like to
see the full show, I'd advise using TrillerTV with a VPN, or
going to Daily Motion for the feed available there. While I
normally don't recommend bootleg feeds, MAX and TNT are
making it impossible to view via legit means.

In keeping with what I've said here about the attempts to
counter program AEW programming, PWinsider reported last
Monday that WWE is potentially looking at the weekend of
July 12 in Atlanta for EVOLUTION 2, timed with a Saturday
Night's Main Event on the same day as ALL IN Texas (July
12), then EVOLUTION on July 13.

Fanatics put out ads for workers for this show.

Before that, in an attempt to compete for media attention
with AEW's Grand Slam Mexico on June 18, Jon Alba of SI.com
reported last week that several top TNA wrestlers will be a
part of the AAA Triplemanía Regia show on June 15 at Arena
Monterrey with TNA World Champion Joe Hendry, TNA X Division
Champion Moose, and the TNA Tag Team Champions Nic and Ryan
Nemeth wrestling on the show. WWE's Los Garza(s) were
already announced for the show.

“We’re thrilled to welcome these four incredible TNA
stars to AAA,”
Roldan told Sports Illustrated’s The
Takedown.“This collaboration represents the best of both
worlds — the passion and tradition of Lucha Libre, and the
global momentum of TNA. Our fans are in for something truly
special.”

All Elite Wrestling today announced last Tuesday that the
Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago will host an
exclusive multi-week residency of AEW Dynamite and AEW
Collision, marking the first time in history that AEW has
ever held a residency in Chicago, and the second one
announced for summer 2025.

The residency dates are as follows:

Wednesday, July 16 – AEW Dynamite
Thursday, July 17 – Special Taping of AEW Collision
Wednesday, July 23 – AEW Dynamite
Saturday, July 26 – AEW Collision
Wednesday, July 30 – AEW Dynamite
Thursday, July 31 – Special Live Edition of AEW Collision

Aragon Ballroom is a longtime Chicago music venue, all the
way back to hosting nearly all of the top names of the big
band era. Shows were radio broadcast nationally and even
heard as far away as Europe; as well as acting as a
traditional ballroom.. During the 1970s, the Aragon held
"monster rock" marathons often lasting six hours. In recent
years it held concerts by Greenday, Nirvana, the White
Stripes, and Metallica. It has a wrestling connection as ECW
previously ran an ECW show there in November 1999, noted for
New Jack diving off of a balcony. Most recently in 2015, it
was used in the filming of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman:
Dawn of Justice as the place where Bruce Wayne's parents
were murdered

Last Wednesday, AEW announced an exclusive partnership with
idrinq as the official Productivity Drink of AEW. With this
new partnership, idrinq will be featured across AEW’s weekly
TV programming on TBS, TNT, and streaming on MAX, along with
several AEW pay-per-view events. While the three year,
$3,575,000, deal was announced last week, it apparently
actually took effect this past October.

TNA is co-hosting ‘The Border Brawl’ with Zoneify on May 25
in Niagara Falls, ON. The promotion reportedly wants Donald
Trump and newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney
to attend the show, and extended invitations to both
leaders.

“The level of political sparring in the U.S. – Canada
trade and tariff talks has been a spectacle, to say the
least,”
said Doug Edwards, President of Zone·tv.
“Having our two leaders settle this at the ‘Border Brawl’
wrestling event may be the best and most entertaining way to
get the deals done.”

While this seems to be largely a publicity stunt, inviting
Donald Trump to an event in Canada is not the best look in
the eyes of many fans...to put it mildly. Given the fact
that Donald Trump is a convicted felon on 34 counts, it's
difficult to imagine Trump being permitted to enter Canada
for anything but official duties.

Finally...

Hypocrite (n.): a person who pretends to have beliefs or
moral standards that they do not actually hold, especially
when their actions contradict their words.

CM Punk tweeted to Mike Mizanin in a now-deleted tweet in
2019: "Go suck a blood money covered dick in Saudi
Arabia, you fucking dork'
Punk made the remark while a
panelist on the FOX studio show, WWE Backstage. It was a
reply to Mizanin saying to Punk after a Saudi trip:
"Sorry, I didn't change the culture".

Then, when Punk first resigned with WWE, Fightful Select
reported that Punk would not be forced to compete at
upcoming events in Saudi Arabia if he didn't wish to; that
he could choose to compete at these events, but if not, it
would be possible to write him off TV when they occurred.

Then, out of nowhere, during WWE Backlash, Punk was
advertised on ads for the upcoming Clash of Champions in
Riyadh. Punk was hit by a wave of hostility on social media,
with hundreds of retweets/screen caps of his tweet to
Mizanin. But on his IG Live recently, CM Punk was asked "why
he hates coming to Saudi Arabia". His response: “I’ve
never been to Saudi, I don’t hate coming to Saudi.”

People make their own moral choices. But when someone is so
strong in making a stand, and judging those who felt
otherwise....they should expect the same degree of
judgement.

It appears that as of Thursday, Punk was removed from the
video. So we'll see if he is actually announced for and
works the show.
