Well...here we go again. As I said a couple of weeks ago,
this weekend features the wonderful world of "over-
counterprogramming" of professional wrestling.
This weekend, WWE is trying to flood the weekend, first
airing WWE Night of Champions PLE from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
on early Saturday afternoon.
Then, on Sunday, the WWE-allied TNA scheduled Slammiversary
(first originally head-to-head with Forbidden Door), then
moved to Saturday that afternoon at 4:00 ET. More on TNA in
a second.
Then, TKO announced the NXT Great American Bash show, the
first Clash of Champions-style PLE on the CW Network as
counter-programming, more than likely being little more than
a sacrificial lamb (running on an unfamiliar night and head-
to-head with AEW) AEW’s Forbidden Door PPV this coming
Sunday.
TNA, which tried to project itself as the "new number two"
is in turmoil right now with the departure of numerous
management and talent, including Tommy Dreamer, who has
announced that he has parted ways with TNA Wrestling after a
"mutual decision". A very emotional Dreamer made the
announcement during Busted Open Radio last Tuesday.
Dreamer was an integral part of the backstage team, as head
booker at TNA Wrestling and pretty much helped run the
promotion. In the announcement, Dreamer said:
“All relationships come to an end. And yesterday I had a
great conversation with Carlos Silva, and me and TNA are no
longer in a relationship,” Dreamer said. “We’ve
mutually agreed to part ways. It’s hard,....I’ve given so
much of my life to that company. I don’t have any ill-will
or malice. I want it to survive, and I want it to be the
best it can be.”
In the announcement, Dreamer said that it will be hard for
him as he is not going to be able to see the people he
helped grow and there are a lot of people who helped him
follow his dreams. “It was a 24-hour job. I think I had
it for close to 10 years. Off and on I’ve been in and out of
there. I loved going to work. I did. But everything comes to
an end,” Dreamer said.
In reality, multiple sources have reported Dreamer was
fired.
Dreamer is the latest of a succession of talent that has
exited the company including Sami Callihan, Steve Maclin,
Tessa Blanchard, Myla Grace, Dani Luna, Mance Warner, Steph
De Lander, three of the four Rascalz, Jake Something (Jake
Doyle), Aiden Prince, and The IInspiration, as well as
several members of the production team.
The Chicagoland-based Warrior Wrestling has added its first
content to MyAEW with matches including Athena vs. Thunder
Rosa, Bandido vs. Jake Something (Doyle), The Rascalz vs.
Will Ospreay, Amazing Red, and Romero, Speedball Mike Bailey
vs. Mike Santana, and Kommander vs. Gringo Loco from earlier
this year.
In addition, the Long-Island based Create-A-Pro Wrestling
and New Jersey based WrestlePro are joining the MyAEW
streaming service, with early content added including
Scarlett Bordeaux vs. Harley Cameron from 2022 from Create-
A-Pro Wrestling and MJF vs. Leo Sparrow in 2023, and Anthony
Bowens v TJ Crawford from Wrestle Pro 2025.
Much more content will be added. Fightful reports additional
promotions are to be announced.
MyAEW is now a significant hub for indie promotions
worldwide, including 1 Fall Wrestling, PRODUCE Wrestling,
Limitless Wrestling, C4 Wrestling, Warrior Wrestling,
WrestlePro, and Create-A-Pro Wrestling, as well as the
CMLL/NJPW Fantastica Mania PPV in a one-time airing.
MyAEW also aired the pay-per-view stream for CMLL Presents
NJPW Fantastica Mania Mexico 2026 on June 19. This marked
the first time a major professional wrestling promotion
other than All Elite Wrestling or Ring of Honor has hosted a
PPV event on the MyAEW platform. So far, this is a one shot
only showing of this PPV. No word on any future connection
to CMLL TV or PPVs.
On Wednesday, AEW announced a partnership with The Last
Match: A Pro-Wrestling Rock Experience, a groundbreaking new
live entertainment event set to premiere in London’s West
End this fall. This partnership marks the first time a major
wrestling company has stepped into the world of original
musical theatre. Opening in the heart of London’s West End,
AEW Presents The Last Match: A Pro Wrestling Rock Experience
will transform a historic 52,000 square foot venue near
Tottenham Court Road into an immersive wrestling and rock-
and-roll wonderland, creating one of the most unique live
entertainment experiences ever staged in the United Kingdom.
To conclude, a certain loud chant familiar to AEW fans came
from those at last night's F1RST Wrestling WREMIX show in
Minneapolis, MN. Here's a salute to the fans of F1RST
Wrestling and to the courage of those in the Twin Cities.
