AS I SEE IT

Pro Wrestling: Between the Sheets

It's becoming increasingly clear that AEW and Warner
Brothers Discovery have a TV deal in place, and that all
that's left is when the announcement takes place. Multiple
reputable wrestling sources, beginning with Andrew Zarian of
Mat Men Pro Wrestling and Beyond The Bell (who has been the
best source for information throughout this entire process)
to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, and finally now Dave Meltzer
and Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer.
All have indicated that parties that have knowledge of the
deal have confirmed the deal is done, and that the PPV shows
will air on MAX, whether free, as part of a B/R sports tier
that was proposed, or using the ESPN+ model (PPV
capabilities doesn't exist yet on MAX, so very unlikely) .
Meltzer reported that there are believed to be other changes
from the status quo regarding the deal (whatever that might
mean).
In addition, an additional wild card has been thrown into
the process. It's public knowledge that AEW has trademarked
the name Shockwave, apparently meant to be an additional
television show. Dave Meltzer, as well as Sapp and Zarian
have all reported that these talks are with FOX for such a
show. Meltzer theorizes that the discussion seems to be
directed more toward FS1 or Tubi, the FOX-owned streaming
channel.
Meanwhile, it's officially Fall later this week. Kids are
already whining about homework. Pumpkin spice pumpkin pie is
being sold somewhere. Mariah Carey is still defrosting.
As I have since 2017 in this AS I SEE IT blog, I report on
how the independent wrestling community reached out to those
in need.
Independent promotions throughout the United States and
Canada held events and gave back to their community;
collecting canned and non-perishable food and warm clothing,
doing fundraisers for homeless or domestic violence
shelters, animal welfare groups, and those with medical
needs.... and holding lots of Toys for Tots drives. They did
it through (obviously) wrestling shows, plus Comic-Cons,
bowling parties, chicken bar-BQ's and a dozen other means.
Wrestling indies are slowly beginning the 2024 season of
giving... with 79 charity shows/events announced (or having
taken place) so far to help their communities for the
Holidays, collecting donations from fans like you. Many more
will do so over the next four months.
Independent wrestling promotions have at this early stage in
2024 raised $154,483 cash donations, 300 pounds of canned
and non-perishable food, and 250 backpacks and "tons of
