Forbidden Door is coming up at the end of the month on June
30 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY, adjacent to Belmont Park;
with matches to be scheduled with talent from AEW, NJPW,
CMLL, and STARDOM.

I wrote back in February about the new relationship between
AEW and CMLL, including an introductory visit by BCC at
Arena Mexico for Homenaje a Dos Leyendas, on March 29 with
a feature match with Místico, Volador Jr., Blue Panther, and
Último Guerrero against Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli,
Bryan Danielson, and Wheeler Yuta, as well as Willow
Nightingale.

Forbidden Door was originally scheduled for Arthur Ashe
Stadium, where AEW ran AEW Grand Slam on September 21, 2022,
which drew 13,800. It's rumored but not confirmed that New
Japan didn't want to share in paying the considerable cost.
So the show was moved to the nearby UBS Arena.

Ticket sales as of June 5 are 7,486.

The matches announced:

IWGP World Championship
Jon Moxley vs. Tetsuya Naito

AEW World Championship
Swerve Strickland defends against Will Ospreay

Ladder match for the vacant AEW TNT Championship
Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mark Briscoe vs. participants TBD
(including presumably Jack Perry, who The Young Bucks as
"EVPs" originally tried to award the TNT Title to)

Winner Takes All match for the AEW TBS Championship and NJPW
Strong Women's Championship
Mercedes Moné (AEW) vs. Stephanie Vaquer (NJPW/CMLL)

AEW Women's World Championship
"Timeless" Toni Storm (with Mariah May and Luther) defends
against STARDOM's Mina Shirakawa

Presumed, but not officially announced after Wednesday's
Dynamite
MJF vs. RUSH

Jeff Cobb defending the NJPW TV Title

As for other matches, I suggested these following matches
back in February (along with the above Mone-Vaquer, which is
actually happening)

* Bryan Danielson vs. Blue Panther

* Hiromu Takahashi vs. El Soberano

* Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta vs. Averno,
Euforia and Mephisto (as seen above, obviously not
happening).

* Top Flight and Orange Cassidy vs. Mistico, Mascara Dorado,
Esfinge

I'd love to see Shingo Takagi finally appear in AEW too. How
about against Samoa Joe?

This is by no means inclusive, but it's a start for fan
fantasy booking.

But the one match I had REALLY been hoping for (and is first
actually taking place in CMLL on the June 22 edition of CMLL
Sábado de Coliseo) was Hechicero vs. Zack Sabre Jr. Instead,
we're getting Sabre vs. Orange Cassidy at Forbidden Door.

I recognize that there's a reason that Ospreay wants to work
Orange Cassidy at Forbidden Door, 2022; and why Sabre, Jr.
wanted to work Cassidy and Katsuyori Shibata, and Daniel
Garcia last year at Forbidden Door. But ZSJ vs. Hechicero
would have been a chance to put on a technical and grappling
classic. Maybe we can still get it at ALL IN.

You may have noticed that RUSH is scheduled. There has
always been a ban of AAA and CMLL talent working the same
shows (although there have been exceptions), especially
PPVs.

But Dave Meltzer said on the June 6 Wrestling Observer Radio
that Tony Khan has indicated an arrangement has apparently
been made as Kahn has really been a good partner for New
Japan, as well as CMLL. Plus money...and visibility talks.
That would allow the Lucha Brothers and RUSH to appear on
the same PPVs as CMLL talent.

To conclude...

Well-known East coast wrestling photographer Christine Coons
recently suffered a major stroke; and Tanya Christine Coons
has organized a GoFundMe for her. Here are the particulars:

"Christine Coons is going through it right now! She has
suffered a stroke. She has very limited movement from her
right side. She is currently in the hospital awaiting news
of where she will go for rehabilitation for the stroke. On
top of the stroke, her heart issues have also come back. So
she is fighting the fight. Frustrated but day by day she's
fighting.

She will be in the hospital/rehabilitation for some time. No
one is sure when she will be able to go back to work. And
she already has hospital bills piling up. Anything anyone
can donate is appreciated. Just reading this is
appreciated!!

Please continue to share and donate. We have to do a lot of
repairs and updates at Christine's house in order for her to
go back home and continue to get better. Every dollar
counts. We will continue to update her process.
