AS I SEE IT November 20: Indies still acting as a light to all as we approach Thanksgiving

AS I SEE IT
Bob Magee
Pro Wrestling: Between the Sheets

This Thursday is Thanksgiving, a day for many families to
come together.....so we are again officially in the season
of light and of the Christchild. But it's important to
remember that far too many don't have that blessing...and
that we can help those people.

Accordingly, during this season, AS I SEE IT discusses each
week how the independent wrestling community reaches out to
those in need.

Independent promotions hold a wide variety of events to
benefit various food pantries, fundraisers for homeless or
domestic violence shelters, and more that provided funds to
efforts benefiting those suffering from cancer, heart
disease, animal charities, natural disasters, veterans
charities, local natural disaster cleanup/relief, other
community efforts...and Toys for Tots drives. In those
events, they ask you fans to do one small thing. Just "one
small thing"....that meant the world to someone you will
never meet: one can of soup that meant someone was fed for
a meal....one box of rice that meant a family was fed for a
week or more.... one warm coat that meant an older person
won't shiver uncontrollably when they walk to the market or
a doctor's appointment... one toy that meant that a child is
allowed a moment of innocence and joy, often the same child
who has gone through fear and deprivation for far too long.

One "small thing" that is anything but small.

So each week, I post those events, and how they help their
communities. Some promotions worry that their event may not
collect a lot of canned food, toys, or raise a lot of money.
Some independent promotions are bigger than others and have
fan bases larger than others.

But there's a proverb out of the Talmud: if you save one
life... it as is if you saved the world. Using the logic of
that teaching...if you feed one family, make one kid happy,
give one person a warm coat....you've done so for everyone.
In an interesting side note: the same proverb is cited in
the Koran. Not to mention that Jesus also said if you did
for one of the least of mine, you did it for me....proving
that in all the great Western traditions, that EVERY effort
to do good as is important as the other.

There are (or have already been) 125 scheduled events that
will take place through the end of the Holiday season.
