ALL ELITE WRESTLING DYNAMITE/TBS/HBO MAX: April 22 report

Posted on 4/23/126 by Bob Magee

AEW Dynamite was LIVE from Portland, Oregon, on TBS and HBO
Max, and for the second straight week, the AEW World Title
was on the line!

AEW World Champion Darby Allin successfully defended his
title for the first time despite a major challenge from
Tommaso Ciampa, who threw everything he had at Allin through
a crimson-covered face. The celebration didn’t last long, as
Brody King came out to challenge Allin for the AEW World
Title next week, and Allin accepted.

That won’t make former AEW World Champion MJF happy. To
begin the night, he marched down to the ring and demanded
Allin return the AEW World Title to him. That led to a
confrontation with TNT Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight and a
match between Knight and MJF for the TNT Title next week on
Dynamite.

Meanwhile, Mark Davis earned one of the biggest wins of his
career by doctor stoppage over Will Ospreay when it was
determined Ospreay could not continue due to loss of feeling
in his arm. When Davis tried to continue the damage, he was
surrounded by the Death Riders, who carried Ospreay away
when Davis left him for them. Plus, we saw the victorious
return of Samoa Joe and a big challenge from Adam Copeland
to FTR.

All that and so much more went down on a huge night in
Portland, Oregon, for Dynamite!  Here are your complete
results!

TNT Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight Interrupts MJF

The night began with a look back at the events that brought
the AEW World Championship to Darby Allin after beating MJF
in the main event of last week’s Dynamite.

The music of former AEW World Champion MJF played, and he
made a beeline for the ring, dressed to wrestle. MJF
demanded respect from the crowd and called last week’s event
the “Seattle Screwjob.” MJF ran down the timeline from
beating Kenny Omega at Dynasty to arriving at Dynamite three
days later to find out he was defending the AEW World Title.
MJF complained about the officiating, the way he lost, and
just about everything else. MJF wondered aloud if the people
believed Allin could beat MJF at 100 percent. MJF reminded
everyone of his achievements, including guaranteeing
“Hangman” Adam Page would never touch the AEW World Title
again and kicking out of the One-Winged Angel! MJF said he
didn’t care about the main event or any “Psycho Killer” and
demanded Allin hand over “his” AEW World Championship.

Instead, TNT Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight made his way to
the ring, also dressed to wrestle. Knight said it was a
different city, but still, MJF was whining “like a bitch.”
Knight said The Jet has landed and before MJF got to hating,
even MJF had to admit how good the TNT Title looks on The
Jet. Knight reminded MJF that he had him beat for the AEW
World Title, but he was screwed and should be Jet2Belts
right now. MJF ran Knight down, saying as he remembers it,
he beat Knight with a Heat Seeker for an easy dub. If anyone
deserves to be the AEW World Champion, it’s MJF.

However, MJF wanted to give Knight props for being the TNT
Champion because he fits the bill as a workhorse. Knight is
good, but has a ceiling. He’ll never be an AEW World
Champion, and he shouldn’t be breathing the same air as MJF.
Knight threatened to slap MJF’s nose off his face and said
some of the greatest in the history of AEW have held that
TNT Title, so it makes sense that MJF has never held it.
Knight challenged MJF to a match! MJF initially wondered
what was in it for him, but he quickly changed his tune by
seeing just how much the title meant to Knight. He agreed to
face Knight if the TNT Title was on the line. Knight agreed,
and MJF called for a referee!

It looks like we have an impromptu TNT Title match!

Referee Bryce Remsburg held up the TNT Championship, but
before he could ring the bell, MJF left the ring and told
Knight, “You can dance with the Devil next week, kid.”

Jericho Needs Partners to Face The Demand on Collision

Renee Paquette was backstage with The Demand and Jericho to
announce that Ricochet, Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona would face
Jericho and two partners on Collision. Still, she asked
Jericho who would be joining him. The Demand said no one
wants to team with Jericho, and Ricochet said no one would
want to be with someone whose new gimmick is being the guy
who gets his ass beat by The Demand every week he shows up.

Jericho said Ricochet can’t say that anymore because he had
it copyrighted. Ricochet tried to claim that he should have
it because he was the one who said it. Jericho then revealed
his newest shirt with his newest (trademarked!) catchphrase!
Ricochet said Jericho might steal his idea, but on
Collision, Ricochet will steal his dignity by pinning
Jericho with a Ricosault. Jericho told Ricochet it wasn’t
about finding someone who liked Jericho. It was just about
finding someone who didn’t like Ricochet!

Brody King def. “The Blackheart” Lio Rush

King made his way to the ring to a huge ovation, but the
temperature in the arena changed when Rush made his
startling saunter down the ramp. Rush sat in the corner
muttering to himself, “It’s not his house anymore. It’s
never been his house. He told me that it’s been his house.”
King pulled Rush out of the corner to start the match, but
Rush scampered away and circled King. A perplexed King
accepted Rush’s handshake only for Rush to bite his hand!
King stopped Rush’s frenetic movement by catching him for a
slam. King sent Rush to the corner and splashed him before
throwing Rush to the floor. King followed up, so Rush
chopped him to no effect. King chopped Rush twice and sat
him in a chair to go for a running crossbody, but Rush moved
at the last second, and King ate the barricade! Rush got on
the announce desk and jumped into the waiting arms of King,
so Rush slipped out the back and pushed King into the ring
post! Rush threw King into the barricade and quickly took
control.

After continuing the attack on the floor, Rush brought King
back into the ring, and the two exchanged shots. King caught
Rush and threw him to the ropes, so Rush bounced back for a
rebound stunner, and King caught him again! King dropped
Rush with a high-angle suplex and a driving clothesline!
King was clearly still bothered by the left arm issue that
resulted from hitting the barricade earlier in the match.
Rush slipped free of King to drape King’s arm over the third
and then the second rope with force. Rush and King battled
on the apron, which nearly resulted in a Gonzo Bomb, but
Rush slipped out and knocked King down with a handspring
kick. Rush went into what has become his ghastly gallop and
torpedoed out of the ring into King! Rush went to the top
rope and dove to the floor onto King with a crossbody!

As King climbed in the ring, Rush came off the top with a
frog splash across the back, but King kicked out at one!
King turned things around with a huge sidewalk slam and
followed with a crushing cannonball in the corner! King
finished Rush with a Gonzo Bomb to get the pinfall victory!
King struggled to lift his left arm after the match, but got
on the mic to say he’ll be keeping a close eye on the main
event. If it’s Tommaso Ciampa, congratulations.

“But if it’s Darby Allin … Darby, I am so proud of you. But
not proud enough not to bring the violence. WOOF!”

Tommaso Ciampa is Ready for the Main Event

Renee Paquette asked Ciampa how his first shot at the AEW
World Championship was gonna go. Ciampa said he’s been told
his entire career what he’s not. Ciampa said what he is is a
husband, a father, a son, a brother. Tonight is about
proving that glass ceilings are imaginary. It’s for
professional wrestling. It’s for the greatest prize in this
sport, the AEW World Title.

“So if you’re asking me, am I ready? You have never seen a
man more prepared for his moment than I am tonight. Now go
ask Darby Allin, ‘Do you want this more than I need it?”

Cope Makes a Massive Challenge to FTR for Double or Nothing

Adam Copeland addressed FTR’s proclamation that Cope and
Christian Cage would never get another shot at the AEW World
Tag Team Championship. Cope said he might be biased, but he
thinks they deserve another one. He has an idea he doesn’t
think even FTR can refuse, since they say they are the
greatest of all time. That’s debatable. But they can say
they are one of the greatest because of what they did to his
face. So here’s the idea: At Double or Nothing, Cope and
Cage versus FTR for the AEW World Tag Team Titles in a New
York Street Fight!

Cope said he knew FTR was wondering what would be in it for
them. If FTR wins, Cope and Cage retire as a team. Cope knew
what his answer would be, and if they are the greatest tag
team of all time, he knew what their answer should be.
Unless deep down, FTR knows Cope and Cage are better. Only
one way to prove it.

“Ball’s in your court, boys.”

Hikaru Shida (with Kris Statlander) def. Mina Shirakawa

Before the match, we heard comments from Shida, who said the
fans would be treated to the great style of Japanese
wrestling, although it seemed somewhat insincere. Shida had
Kris Statlander with her at ringside, while Shirakawa danced
down the ramp on her own. Shida lightly applauded from the
corner.

Shirakawa refused a handshake from Shida, yelling about not
trusting Shida. The two traded reversals until Shida blocked
an armdrag and hammered Shirakawa onto the ropes. Shirakawa
turned it around and unloaded on Shida! Shida threw
Shirakawa to the mat in a fit of frustration. Shirakawa
fired up and did the same to Shida. They both tried a
dropkick at the same time and had a standoff. Shirakawa
ducked under Shida and danced on her knees, but was also
able to duck away from Shida attacking from behind.
Shirakawa sent Shida to the corner, but Shida reversed it
only for Shirakawa to come off the top with an enzigiri
followed by a slingblade!

Shirakawa mounted Shida and pounded away, but Shida pushed
out of it into a pinning predicament. That set off a chain
reaction of pin attempts with no victor. Shirakawa tried to
bait Shida in, but Shida leveled Shirakawa with a flying
knee that made a sickening thud on impact!
Shida stopped an exchange with a headbutt, but Shirakawa
came back with a flying headscissors. She sent Shida to the
corner and hit a charging elbow. Shida sent Shirakawa to the
ropes, but Mina held on and booted Shida. She wrenched
Shida’s leg in the ropes with a dragon screw and came back
in with a springboard tornillo for a near-fall!

Shirakawa repeatedly slammed Shida’s knee into the mat and
followed with a kneebreaker to set up the figure four
leglock. Shida blocked it and rolled to the floor. Mina
followed and dropkicked the back of Shida’s leg! Shida
reversed Shirakawa into the steel steps and carried her up
to the apron. Shida slipped Shirakawa down her back and sat
down on Shirakawa’s chest on the apron! Shida went to the
top and connected with a meteora to Shida on the way down
for a two-count!

Shida nailed Shirakawa with a Tamashii, but Shirakawa kicked
out again! Shirakawa slipped out of Shida’s grasp and nailed
her with a rolling elbow strike. Both women collapsed to the
mat. They returned to their feet and exchanged big strikes
until Mina hit a spinning backfist to stun Shida. Shirakawa
came off the top with a dropkick to Shida! She went to the
top right corner for a top-rope slingblade, but this time,
Shida kicked out just in time. Shirakawa locked in the
figure four leglock until Shida was able to roll to the
ropes. While Shirakawa argued with the referee, she caught
Shida reaching for her kendo stick. Shirakawa grabbed it and
went to use it, so Statlander jumped on the apron to take it
away, saying Mina was better than that. Shirakawa turned
into a jumping knee from Shida, followed by a Falcon Arrow
to give Shida the pinfall victory. Statlander came into the
ring to embrace Shida and raise her hand.

A Preview of Okada vs. Takeshita at Double or Nothing

With AEW International Champion “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika
Okada set to defend his title against “The Alpha” Konosuke
Takeshita in a clash of The Don Callis Family at Double or
Nothing, we saw highlights of how the two came to this
point, with Okada telling Takeshita he’s not a champion.

10-Man Tag Set for Collision Playoff Palooza!

After the Young Bucks beat The Rascalz on Collision last
week in an excellent tag team match, both teams were
decimated by The Dogs. As a result, we’ll see a huge 10-man
tag team match this Saturday at Playoff Palooza, pitting the
Young Bucks and the Rascalz against David Finlay and Clark
Connors of The Dogs and Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia
and Wheeler Yuta of the Death Riders!

Mark Davis of the Don Callis Family def. Will Ospreay via
Doctor Stoppage

Ospreay was noticeably covered in KT tape as he took off his
ring jacket. Davis ripped off his ring jacket while stomping
his way to the ring, as he couldn’t wait to get his hands on
Ospreay. Ospreay charged at the bell, and Davis just
shoulder-blocked him all the way to the floor. Ospreay got
back on the apron, so Davis ran him back to the floor. Davis
followed up and charged into Ospreay, sending him flying
into the barricade! Don Callis joined the commentary desk as
Davis was in complete control.

Back in the ring, Davis slammed Ospreay to the mat, but took
too long and missed a senton. Ospreay slipped free and
dropkicked Davis to the floor. Ospreay fired up the crowd
and went for a springboard, so Davis grabbed Ospreay and
pulled him to the floor. Davis kicked Ospreay and threw him
to the steps, but Ospreay jumped over and kicked the steps
back into Davis’ knees. Ospreay ran up the steps and took
Davis over with a flying headscissors!

Ospreay threw Davis back in the ring and connected with a
springboard elbow, which seemed to bother Ospreay as well.
Davis managed to kick out at two. Ospreay tried to hook
Davis for a Stormbreaker, but couldn’t get him up. Ospreay
hit some quick kicks and a pair of chops, so Davis responded
with a massive chop that collapsed Ospreay to the mat. Davis
clotheslined Ospreay hard over the top rope to the floor.
Davis rolled out and punished Ospreay with knee lifts as the
two fought down the side of the ramp. Davis lifted Ospreay
for a powerbomb, but Ospreay got free and kicked Davis from
the ramp. Ospreay backed up and ran off the stage to hit
Davis with a cannonball senton!

As the fight continued in the ring, Davis ripped Ospreay off
the top rope with a neckbreaker. Davis clobbered Ospreay
with a diving forearm in the corner, but Ospreay was able to
kick out at two! Davis tried for a piledriver, but Ospreay
broke free and took Davis down with a flying corkscrew kick.
Ospreay hit Davis with a running boot in the corner,
followed by a flying forearm from the top rope to the back
of Davis’ neck! Ospreay covered Davis, but Davis kicked out
in time!

Davis stopped a Hidden Blade attempt and sent Ospreay to the
ropes, so Ospreay hung on and hit Davis with a boot. Ospreay
couldn’t lift Davis, so Davis clubbed him and put him on the
top rope in between the corners. Ospreay tried to fight back
until Davis turned Ospreay inside out with a chop/lariat
combo that made everyone wince! Except Callis, who laughed
with glee. Davis picked up on his shoulders and flipped him
down to the mat with authority, but Ospreay kicked out!
Callis said he could put Davis in the NFL Draft tomorrow,
and he’d go in the first round.

Ospreay escaped another piledriver attempt and tried for a
dragon suplex, but Davis elbowed out of it. Ospreay
connected with a hook kick, only for Davis to come back with
a jumping enzuigiri. Davis tried to rebound Ospreay into a
lariat, but Ospreay reversed it into a Spanish Fly! Davis
kicked out just in time! Ospreay tried to feed off the crowd
and nailed a series of strikes until Davis stopped him with
a massive right hand! Ospreay got out of Davis’ grasp and
hit another hook kick. He tried for an OsCutter, but Davis
caught it and dropped Ospreay on his damaged neck with a
backdrop suplex. Davis picked Ospreay up and hit a second
backdrop suplex. He hit a third by bringing Ospreay back in
from the apron. Ospreay managed to kick out again! Davis
connected with another enzuigiri and tried the rebound
lariat again, but Ospreay was ready with a Hidden Blade!
Davis kicked out at two!

Ospreay tried to get feeling back in his hand and tried for
another Hidden Blade, but took too long, so Davis floored
him with a lariat. Davis hoisted Ospreay up for Close Your
Eyes and Count to Three and dropped Ospreay right on his
neck! 1-2-Ospreay rolled his foot on the rope! Davis
snatched Ospreay on the apron and hit another piledriver on
the corner of the ring! Referee Paul Turner called for
medical attention and sent Davis back to the ring. Ospreay,
who was only barely cleared to wrestle tonight, pleaded with
the doctor to let him continue. However, the doctor said
Ospreay had no feeling in his arm and said Ospreay could not
continue. As a result of the stoppage, Davis was declared
the winner.

Davis celebrated momentarily until he saw Ospreay on the
apron and pulled him back in the ring. Davis picked Ospreay
up for another piledriver, but Marina Shafir appeared on the
apron. Behind Davis, Jon Moxley entered the ring, and the
rest of the Death Riders quickly surrounded Davis. Davis
took stock of the situation and put Ospreay on the mat
before leaving up the ramp, as the Death Riders took Ospreay
away through the crowd!

Alex Windsor Isn’t Done with the Triangle of Madness

With Jamie Hayter still not medically cleared from Dynasty,
Renee Paquette asked Alex Windsor what was next after Thekla
beat her to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship on
Collision. Windsor promised to pick apart Triangle of
Madness, and CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone stepped
in to say she’d love to join Windsor Saturday on Collision!

Samoa Joe def. Cody Chhun

For the first time in over three months, former AEW World
Champion Samoa Joe returned to action after being medically
cleared earlier in the day. Chhun surprisingly worked his
way out of an arm wringer into one of his own, but Joe
quickly stopped that with some strikes and headbutts to keep
control of Chhun’s arm. Chhun threw a right hand to break
free, and Joe nodded with respect, so Chhun kept going until
Joe ended the flurry with a running elbow. Joe lit up Chhun
with jabs into the corner and down to the mat. Joe picked up
Chhun and put him on the top rope for a Muscle Buster, but
Chhun gouged him in the eyes! Chhun came off the top with a
crossbody, which Joe avoided by walking away as only he can.
Joe sent Chhun hard into the turnbuckles and finished him
with a Muscle Buster to get the pinfall victory! HOOK, who
has been the acting boss of The Opps in Joe’s absence, met
Joe at the top of the ramp to greet him!

Darby Allin’s Journey to the Peak

Every major highlight, moment and achievement in Allin’s
life, both in and out of the ring, were shown leading to his
crowning victory last week at Dynamite to win the AEW World
Title!

Jericho Finds Help in The Hurt Syndicate

Renee Paquette found Jericho outside his locker room to ask
if he had found partners for his trios match on Collision.
Jericho said he was just talking to them, which brought
Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley out of the locker room.
MVP followed up and told Paquette, "It’s not personal; it’s
business."

Darby Allin Interrupted by MJF Before Main Event

Tony Schiavone introduced AEW World Champion Darby Allin,
and Allin made his way to the ring to an amazing reaction.
He hugged Schiavone, who gave Allin the microphone and
exited the ring. Allin laid the AEW World Title on the mat
and knelt behind it. The crowd filled the arena with chants
of “YOU DESERVE IT!” Allin pointed to the AEW World Title
and said this took everything. He said he had his first
match right here in Portland. He didn’t think of what he was
going to say because it could all end in a matter of minutes
when Tommaso Ciampa comes out here. He sees what the
championship does to people. But that’s not him. This is for
his family. This is for the sherpas who helped him on Mount
Everest. This is for all of the fans. He knows it’s a 15-
minute ride, and when it’s over, he wants to know who he’s
looking at in the mirror.

MJF interrupted Allin from the stage and demanded that Allin
give him the AEW World Title back right now. Allin said no.
MJF demanded a rematch. Allin said no. If MJF wants a
rematch, he needs to put something on the line because,
unlike MJF, everyone in the back deserves a shot at this.
Allin said he’ll do this every single week until his body
gives out, and it starts with Tommaso! Ciampa’s music hit,
and he went face-to-face on the ramp with MJF, who had words
for Ciampa. Ciampa answered by kissing MJF on the cheek and
continued down the ramp, leaving MJF furious and stunned!

AEW World Championship Match: Darby Allin (c) def. “Psycho
Killer” Tommaso Ciampa

Allin and Ciampa came to blows at the bell until Ciampa beat
Allin into the corner. He threw Allin to the opposite side
and came in with a boot. When Ciampa tried it again, Allin
cut him off with a dropkick. Allin went up for a Coffin
Drop, so Ciampa rolled to the floor. Allin went to a
different corner and came down on Ciampa with a Coffin Drop
from the top rope to the floor!

Allin tried to bring Ciampa back in, but the two fought on
the apron until Ciampa kicked Allin into the announce desk,
which Allin hit head-first! Ciampa followed by throwing
Allin into the barricade hard, and the challenger was
clearly handling his business. Ciampa continued to punish
Allin around the ringside area until he trapped Allin
against the ring skirt and catapulted him into the metal
frame! Ciampa had Allin lined up near the timekeeper's area
and went for a running boot, but Allin moved, and Ciampa
crashed and burned! Allin went up to the ring post and
jumped off with a diving clothesline that sent Ciampa
crashing into the timekeeper's area in a spectacular display
of chaos!

Ciampa came up covered in blood, so Allin threw himself out
of the ring for a dive that sent Ciampa into the announce
desk! Allin threw Ciampa back in the ring and went to the
top for another Coffin Drop, but Ciampa used the referee to
get in Allin’s way and then dove at the ropes to knock Allin
back to the mat. He stomped Allin in the back of the head,
leaving his own blood on Allin’s back. Ciampa grabbed Allin
from behind, so Allin ran up the turnbuckles to flip over
him. Ciampa grabbed onto the turnbuckle cover and yanked it
off as Allin pulled him out of the corner for a Scorpion
Death Drop! Allin went back to the top for a Coffin Drop, so
Ciampa rolled to the opposite side of the ring on the apron.
Allin took a moment to consider his options and went to the
top, but the delay gave Ciampa a chance to knock Allin off
his feet. Ciampa met Allin on the top with two big chops and
then grabbed him for a Psycho Driller to the floor! That was
absolutely mad! That still wasn’t enough to put Allin away!

Both men fought back to their feet and exchanged shots until
Ciampa took advantage and chopped Allin into the corner. A
blood-soaked Ciampa seemed to be getting stronger with each
chop! Ciampa charged Allin in the corner, so Allin moved,
but Ciampa pulled up in time to avoid the exposed
turnbuckle. Allin went for a dropkick, but Ciampa caught him
for a catapult to the corner. Allin jumped to the top rope
and came right back down with a stomp to Ciampa’s chest!
What an improvisation of impactful offense by Darby!

After Allin had Ciampa back on his feet and staggered, he
went for a Code Red, but Ciampa flipped Allin onto his face!
With Allin on his knees, Ciampa came off the ropes with a
bicycle knee! Allin rose back up in defiance! Ciampa grabbed
him for Project Ciampa, but Allin slipped free and caught
Ciampa with a Code Red for a near-fall! Both men gasped for
air as they struggled to get off the mat. The fans in
Portland showed their support for the amazing effort, and
Allin channeled that energy to get back on the top rope for
a Coffin Drop. However, Ciampa caught him on the way down in
a rear-naked choke with a bodyscissors. Allin rolled over
for a near-fall! Ciampa sent Allin into the exposed
turnbuckle, and it connected with the back of Allin’s head!
Ciampa leveled Allin with another bicycle knee! 1-2-NO! How
did Allin kick out of that?!

Ciampa slammed the mat in frustration and picked up Allin to
hit Project Ciampa! Ciampa lined up Allin for another knee
and connected once again with a smack heard throughout the
arena! Allin somehow kicked out again! Ciampa sat stunned
until he slowly crossed Allin’s legs for a Scorpion Death
Lock, but he showboated for too long, and Allin kicked up
until he turned it around and put Ciampa in the Scorpion
Death Lock! Ciampa clawed his way toward the ropes, but
Allin pulled him back to the middle of the ring. Allin
wrenched all the way back and pulled Ciampa away from the
ropes again. He stood back up for one last push, and Ciampa
tapped out! The two men were left in an interconnected heap
of exhaustion and blood, but only Allin lay victorious.

Both men rolled up to their knees, and Allin extended a
hand, which Ciampa accepted before bowing to Allin. He put
the AEW World Title over Allin’s shoulder and rolled to the
apron to applaud as Allin raised the title. As Ciampa went
up the ramp, Brody King entered the ring and told Allin he
was serious when he said he was proud of Allin. They’ve
spent countless nights talking about moments like this. King
talked to Tony Khan, and with Allin’s permission, it’s Darby
Allin vs. Brody King for the AEW World Title next week on
Dynamite! Allin accepted the challenge with a handshake!
King left the ring, and Allin celebrated to close out
Dynamite in Portland!
