With just four days until AEW Forbidden Door, AEW came to
the OVO Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, for the first time ever
in front of a raucous crowd ready to see the best wrestle.
MJF used a beaten Mark Briscoe to secure three major
stipulations in this weekend’s AEW World Championship match
against “Hangman” Adam Page. The face-to-face between Will
Ospreay and Jon Moxley quickly turned into so much more,
including an already scheduled trios match and even more
backup for the Death Riders. Adam Copeland and Christian
Cage were interviewed by Tony Schiavone, but were left
laying by a very old acquaintance. Brodido and FTR met in
the finals of the AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator
Tournament. And Athena sent “Timeless” Toni Storm a direct
and painful message.
Here’s everything that went down on a loaded episode of AEW
Dynamite for August 20, 2025, including your full results
and match recaps.
Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley Come Face to Face
It only made sense to open the first AEW Dynamite with a man
synonymous with the rise of European wrestling over the last
decade plus, “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay!
Ospreay regaled the jam-packed Glasgow crowd with some
memories from his time in the beautiful town of Glasgow,
including his enjoyment of sausage rolls.
Did that elicit the first “Sausage, Sausage
Rollllllllllllls” chant in international wrestling
television history? Of course it did.
Ospreay said he’s been thinking back because he doesn’t know
how things are going to turn out on Sunday in the Lights Out
Steel Cage match at AEW Forbidden Door. He said he’s doing
this match because he loves this place, as Ospreay has said
many times before, so it’s pretty clear he’ll do whatever it
takes to defend it.
“If there’s even a small chance that I can’t be Will Ospreay
after Sunday, then I’m leaving everything in that ring!”
And that brought out the other half of our face-to-face, Jon
Moxley…with the Death Riders in tow. Before Mox could utter
a word, Ospreay asked if Moxley really needed help taking
him out.
“This Sunday, don’t let your boys do it. Do it yourself.”
Before the Death Riders could move in on Ospreay, Kevin
Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey of JetSpeed hit the ring,
as their recent issues with Moxley and company were supposed
to lead to a trios match later on Dynamite. Apparently,
their partner, Hiroshi Tanahashi, didn’t want to wait either
and the bell rang!
Hiroshi Tanahashi and JetSpeed def. The Death Riders
Tanahashi went right after Mox to start things off and we
were under way with our first match of the night!
It didn’t take long for Marina Shafir to get involved, but
she was immediately caught by referee Bryce Remsburg and
ejected from the match! As she made her way up the ramp,
Ospreay returned to give her a free ride to the locker room,
garnering yet another set of big cheers from the crowd.
Still, the Death Riders were able to get control and singled
out Kevin Knight, hitting quick tags between all three
members as Knight had no chance of getting out of the wrong
corner.
Special guest commentator Bryan Danielson admitted it was
very hard to be out there watching the match, and not in
there himself, as he has lots of history with Moxley,
Castagnoli, and Yuta.
Finally, Tanahashi made the tag and the tide began to turn.
Tanahashi, Knight, and Bailey hit
Twist and Shouts on all three members of the Death Riders.
With Knight and Bailey flying to the outside, Tanahashi went
to the top, as it looked like The Ace would finish off Yuta,
but Gabe Kidd arrived and he wasn’t alone. Kidd was backed
by the War Dogs of New Japan Pro Wrestling, including Drilla
Moloney, Clark Connors, and Robbie X.
Tanahashi hit a High Fly Flow on Yuta for the pin, but the
celebration didn’t last long.
The War Dogs returned to the ring and swung the numbers
completely in their favor alongside the Death Riders.
With Ospreay taunting the Death Riders with a body bag that
apparently contained Shafir, they made their way up the ramp
to confront Ospreay. However, the Young Bucks snuck up from
behind Ospreay and hit him with stereo superkicks. Finally,
the bodybag was opened and Darby Allin appeared!
Reinforcements arrived in the form of the AEW World Trios
Champions, The Opps, and Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly
of Paragon. Chaos now reigned all over the OVO Arena with
brawls taking place throughout the crowd, but an Allin dive
from the mezzanine took out the Death Riders and War Dogs!
With the Glasgow faithful already at a fever pitch, Ospreay,
Allin, and company stood tall in the ring, landing a
significant blow before the Lights Out Steel Cage match at
AEW Forbidden Door.
What Went Down with Hangman and MJF Last Week
We were taken back to last week’s Dynamite, when AEW World
Champion, “Hangman” Adam Page, played MJF’s own game against
him and coaxed him into executing his guaranteed contract
for a shot at the AEW World Championship at AEW Forbidden
Door. However, MJF still had the last laugh, when he
attacked Page in the parking lot as Dynamite came to a
close. Hangman is scheduled to speak later tonight.
Tony Schiavone Interviews Adam Copeland and Christian Cage
With Tony Schiavone waiting in the ring, we heard “You think
you know him” and Adam Copeland made his way to the ring,
appropriately serenaded by the jam-packed crowd in
attendance. Christian Cage didn’t get quite the same
reaction and made it worse when he began to insult the
crowd.
Copeland immediately cut that off and said, “What are you
doing, man? You’re still gonna be that guy? Come on, these
people love us!” And with that the crowd erupted!
“I get it, I get it. He is what he is. He’s an asshole.”
Copeland admitted sometimes you need one of those some
times.
“It just so happens that he’s my asshole.”
Schiavone asked if Cage had taken Copeland’s advice and
found himself. Cage said he went home and did just that.
“I don’t need to change a thing! I am perfect just the way I
am!”
Cage admitted the two aren’t on the same page, but they are
writing the same book. The reunion isn’t happy, but out of
necessity. Copeland agreed to help Cage with Nick Wayne and
Cage agreed to help Copeland with FTR.
Cage wouldn’t promise anything beyond that, but said this
version of Christian Cage would be the best tag team partner
Copeland ever had. And with that he extended a hand and
Copeland shook it.
We then heard the voices of Kip Sabian and Mother Wayne, who
introduced a video from Nick Wayne.
Wayne addressed Copeland and Cage holding crutches, noting
that Spike may not have taken out Wayne for good, but he did
suffer a broken foot. That means he’s out for their tag
match at AEW Forbidden Door, but he would have taken
everything from them. Wayne said he’s always one step ahead,
leading to a video showing the rise of Killswitch.
Killswitch then made his way to the ring, chokeslamming
Copeland while Cage was distracted by Sabian. It looked like
Cage would be left alone, but Killswitch turned around to
chokeslam Cage, too.
Killswitch will replace the injured Wayne to tag with Sabian
against Copeland and Cage at AEW Forbidden Door!
Mark Briscoe is Looking for MJF
We hear some commotion backstage and find Mark Briscoe
saying he flew across the ocean for MJF! Briscoe threatened
MJF’s life, but continued on looking before saying anything
more.
MJF Makes a Deal with Ricochet
Elsewhere in the building, MJF came up to Ricochet and GOA,
admitting he wasn’t a fan of bald people, but could use some
help dealing with a common enemy in Mark Briscoe. So he
offered a hand of friendship to deal with their problem and
shooed the cameras away as the four men schemed.
Brodido and FTR Fight to a Draw in the AEW World Tag Team
Title Eliminator Tournament Finals
After a month of grueling battles, Brodido and FTR found
themselves in the finals of the AEW World Tag Team Title
Tournament Eliminator. Would FTR earn a chance to become
three-time AEW World Tag Team Champions or is Brodido riding
too much momentum? We were about to find out.
The clash of styles was evident early on. FTR would try to
slow down the pace while Bandido would speed things up and
King would use his power advantage. FTR knew King was a
problem for them and seemed to focus on taking him out
early, including a piledriver that they celebrated a little
too early. Brody King pops back up!
Bryan Danielson is absolutely loving what he’s seeing from
the commentary desk! He noted how great Brodido’s teamwork
was after only three months. High praise from the American
Dragon!
Brody nearly took out both members of FTR, but took a shot
from Stokely on the outside and went down in a heap. No, Big
Stoke doesn’t pack that kind of punch, as he slyly revealed
a pipe hidden in his sling. And it was an accurate shot, as
King came up with a blood-covered face.
Once again, FTR slowed things down and grinded down King
finally battled through the blood to finally make the tag to
Bandido and the ROH World Champion lit up FTR on his own
until they caught a big dive to the outside and slammed
Bandido on the apron.
Stokely, perhaps overzealous, tried to distract Bandido with
the stolen mask, but Bandido was able to take it back and
put it on before hitting a splash for a two count.
FTR looked primed to hit Power and Glory from the
turnbuckles, but Bandido and King escaped, with Bandido
nearly scoring a three count.
Harwood got King up on the top rope once again and hit an
avalanche suplex which Wheeler immediately followed with a
big splash!
King kicked out!
FIVE MINUTES REMAINING!
Bandido got a blind tag on King, as FTR put Brody down with
a Shatter Machine, but he was no longer the legal man.
Bandido sprung into action, yet after a brief flurry FTR
once again took control and executed a brutal Blockbuster
combo. But it still wasn’t enough!
With King on the apron, FTR hit him with an absolutely
devastating spike piledriver, seemingly taking him out of
the match for good.
Bandido countered the Shatter Machine with a DDT and looked
poised to hit the 21 plex, but Cash saved Dax, so Bandido
turned it around and Cash saved Dax! Another attempt at the
Shatter Machine hit, but King made the save with 60 seconds
left!
FTR grabbed a table on the outside with King following right
after them. Bandido chased Cash back in the ring and went to
the outside, but Wheeler was right behind him and went
crashing into the table as the time limit expired!
In the ring, Bandido hit Dax with 21 Plex, although it meant
nothing with the referee waving it off.
The match was declared a draw, but Tony Khan made it
official that The Hurt Syndicate would defend their AEW
World Tag Team Titles against both Brodido and FTR in a 3-
Way Elimination Match!
With the match made, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin made
their way to the top of the ramp to stare down all of their
Forbidden Door opponents.
The Story of Swerve Strickland and Kazuchika Okada
We were treated to a tremendous recap of the history between
AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada and Swerve Strickland.
Those two will meet for that title in Okada’s first defense
at AEW Forbidden Door this Sunday!
Hangman Adam Page Sacrifices Stipulations to Save Mark
Briscoe
It was a hero’s welcome for the AEW World Champion “Hangman”
Adam Page, although Page was clearly angry about everything
that went down last week with MJF. He called out MJF and
when the music hit, no one came out.
All of a sudden, Tony Schiavone started relaying messages to
Hangman from MJF, noting that Page had to stay in the ring
until he was done with the threat of something bad
happening.
The camera revealed MJF somewhere hidden in the building
with a tied-up Mark Briscoe surrounded by Ricochet and GOA.
MJF poured gasoline on Briscoe and said the only way to stop
him from setting Briscoe on fire was to agree to three
stipulations for their AEW World Title match at AEW
Forbidden Door.
First, the title can change hands by disqualification.
Second, the title can change hands by countout. And finally,
MJF could have the match without executing his Casino
Gauntlet contract. Before Briscoe was set ablaze, Hangman
agreed to the stipulations and Briscoe was left alone by his
assailants. Page went rushing to the back with a chair.
MJF Escapes Hangman, but Ricochet Doesn’t
With Page in hot pursuit, he found Ricochet and demanded to
know where MJF was, but security arrived on the scene and
informed Hangman that MJF was already gone. Page decked a
security guard and left, just as GOA found Ricochet still
cowering.
ROH World Women’s Champion Athena and TBS Champion Mercedes
Moné def. AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm and Alex
Windsor
Despite having common enemies, the team of Athena and
Mercedes was still a pair of big egos, so there was some
miscommunication between the two to start – and throughout
the match.
Storm tagged in, clad in tartan and told Moné to “Get in my
belly!” Moné disappointed everyone in Glasgow by tagging out
to Athena.
However, that gave us a preview of Sunday’s AEW Women’s
World Title match between Storm and Athena. While both had
their brief moments, neither gained much of an advantage
before both Moné and Windsor got back into the fray.
A frustrated Athena got in Moné’s face, saying she needed to
get it together. Apparently, the message was received, as
Moné assisted Athena in a torpedo dive to the outside on
Windsor, but Storm followed with a big hip attack of her
own. Athena got in Moné’s face again before crushing Windsor
with a powerbomb on the floor!
Moné and Athena remained in control for some time until
Windsor finally escaped them long enough to make the tag to
a fresher Storm.
Storm and Windsor tried to go for some tandem offense on
Athena, but they were out of sync and the tide shifted on a
lungblower/backstabber combo from Athena and Moné. Luckily,
Windsor saved Storm from a submission just in time.
With the damage done, Storm found herself in the wrong
corner, and only saved herself with a desperation DDT,
getting just enough time for Windsor to tag back in with a
major second wind. Windsor nearly pinned the TBS Champion on
multiple occasions, but Athena made a big save.
Athena and Storm wound up battling on the steel steps with
The Fallen Goddess putting Storm in massive pain with a
piledriver!
Windsor locked Moné in a Sharpshooter, but Athena was the
legal woman. With Windsor distracted by her mistake, Athena
flew over her with an O-Face for the win. After the match,
Moné confronted another one of her opponents at Forbidden
Door, Persephone, in the crowd, but she immediately shoved
Moné down.
As Storm was tended to by medical staff, Athena and Moné
celebrated their victory with Dynamite coming to a close.
