ALL ELITE WRESTLING COLLISION/TNT/MAX: January 17 results

Posted on 1/18/126 by Bob Magee

AEW Collision Maximum Carnage was back in Phoenix, Arizona,
on TNT and HBO Max to complete the second half of this
loaded week with the best pro wrestling in the world!

The night ended historically, as “Hangman” Adam Page and
JetSpeed (“Speedball”  Mike Bailey and “The Jet” Kevin
Knight) defeated The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and
Katsuyori Shibata) to win the AEW World Trios Championship
in the main event when Knight pinned Hobbs! Even Swerve
Strickland and Prince Nana came out to show appreciation to
the new champions as Collision came to a close!

In another match with title implications, “Jungle” Jack
Perry beat Anthony Bowens to secure a future shot at the AEW
National Championship. After the match, Perry and AEW
National Champion Ricochet brawled, as they continued their
recent rivalry.

We saw Marina Shafir take on Zayda Steel of SkyFlight, with
Jon Moxley on commentary, but after Shafir’s victory, Moxley
was attacked by the Don Callis Family until the Death Riders
came to Moxley’s aid and a major brawl ensued!

After things calmed down, the Callis Family was in action,
as the returning Kyle Fletcher, El Clon and Josh Alexander
were victorious in a Trios Match against SkyFlight’s Scorpio
Sky, Darius Martin and Dante Martin. We also saw the return
of Konosuke Takeshita, who was happy to see Fletcher but
appeared to blow off Don Callis. Andrade El Ídolo also
returned to the ring in his first match as a member of the
Callis Family with a dominant victory over Angelico.

Plus, Eddie Kingston and Ortiz handled Grizzled Young
Veterans, and “Timeless” Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa had
their eyes on Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford! Also, The Rascalz
arrived in AEW!

Check out everything that went down on the rest of Maximum
Carnage! Here are your complete results from Phoenix!

AEW Collision Recap Tonight for Phoenix

Andrade El Ídolo of The Don Callis Family def. Angelico

Our night began with Andrade El Ídolo returning to action as
a member of the Don Callis Family in our opening contest!
Andrade immediately put Angelico down in the corner with a
nasty back elbow. Andrade followed with running knees, and
that could have been it, but Andrade pulled Angelico off the
mat. Andrade pretended to go for a figure four and then
laughed it off before a big strike across the chest. He
followed with a suplex, but took too long going for a second
one, which allowed Angelico to hit a rising kick and get a
one count.

Andrade pushed Angelico into the corner, but then ran into a
pair of boots. Angelico lifted himself to the top rope, so
Andrade met him with a kick to the side of the head. He came
off the top with a superplex and then hung on for two more
before going for a pin and once again, pulling up Angelico
at two. Andrade mercifully finished Angelico with a spinning
double-underhook driver. Three seconds later, Andrade had
his first win with the Don Callis Family.

The Rascalz are in AEW!

Empty heading
Lexy Nair attempted to get a word with the newest members of
the AEW roster, The Rascalz! A locker room door opened, and
smoke billowed out, as we saw Desmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz
and Myron Reed. Lexy tried to ask a question, but lost her
train of thought in the fog. Xavier said they have it from
here. They introduced themselves, and Xavier said that if
AEW is where the best wrestle and they’ve been one of, if
not the best faction, for the last decade, then this is
where the Rascalz belong! Wentz said, "Tell everybody the
Rascalz are All Elite!" Reed said they aren’t here to take
part; they are here to take over. Bring on the best tag and
trios teams, and they will smoke 'em! They invited Nair to
join them in their locker room for a session, but she said
she’s working. Xavier said, “So are we!” The Rascalz made
their way through the smoke, as Nair remained on the job.

Eddie Kingston & Ortiz def. Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack
Gibson and James Drake)

Empty heading
Before the match, we saw a rundown of the events that
brought us to this match, including Ortiz making the save
for Kingston at Worlds End Zero Hour. This is Ortiz’s first
AEW match in 728 days after working his way back from a
pectoral injury. He looked to be in phenomenal shape!

Gibson and Ortiz began this one, although Drake made a quick
blind tag. Ortiz was ready for it and sent Gibson over the
top with a clothesline and hit a step-up kick on Drake
before diving onto Gibson on the outside! He kept the
pressure on Drake until Kingston tagged in for a double
suplex. A very intense Kingston unloaded on Drake and put
him in a camel clutch, as Ortiz tagged in to hit a basement
dropkick. He brought Kingston back in, but Drake trapped
Kingston in the GYV corner, as they double-teamed the Mad
King. Drake nailed a dropkick that sent Kingston into the
corner, but Kingston fired out with a lariat to drop Drake!
Ortiz and Gibson both tagged in, and Ortiz opened up on
Gibson until Drake made a blind tag and took Ortiz out with
a low kick. Gibson hit a short dropkick and brought Ortiz to
the outside. He held Ortiz for a dive from Drake that
connected in a big way!

After dominating Ortiz for several minutes, he finally made
a tag to Kingston, who unloaded on Drake with machine gun
chops in the corner. Ortiz came back in and nailed Drake
with a powerbomb for a two count. Kingston tagged back in
and put Drake on his shoulder as Ortiz went to the top, but
Gibson shoved him off, and Kingston got taken out by an
enzuigiri. Kingston and Gibson went into a strike battle,
but when Gibson kicked Kingston in the shin, it fired him up
even more! He put Gibson down with an exploder, but Gibson
immediately started complaining to the referee about an
injury.

With the referee distracted, Drake tried to choke Kingston
with a scarf, but Kingston took it away. When he turned back
around, Gibson came off the top with Ticket to Ride, but
Kingston kicked out! Drake tagged back in and put Kingston
down with a flatliner and locked in a submission. Kingston’s
arm went down twice, but on the third, he fought back and
escaped the hold with ground-and-pound! Kingston kicked away
at Drake and looked for a DDT, but Drake rolled Kingston
into a nearfall. When Kingston kicked out, Drake was sent
into the ropes, where Ortiz hit him with the Mad Balls in a
sock unbeknownst to the referee. Kingston took advantage
with a DDT to get the win!

Kris Statlander and The Babes of Wrath Aren’t Done with
Triangle of Madness

Empty heading
We took a look back at the trios match from Dynamite, where
Thekla pinned AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander
after Statlander took a spear for TBS Champion Willow
Nightingale. After the match, we heard from Nightingale,
Statlander and Harley Cameron, where Statlander told
Nightingale not to worry about what happened because she’d
take a bullet for either of them. However, Statlander
acknowledged that Thekla pinned her, so now what will Thekla
do about it?

“What you think is toxic? I think I like the taste.”

FTR and Big Stoke Praise Future Challengers Jake Doyle &
Mark Davis (Sort Of)

Empty heading
Tony Schiavone brought out the AEW World Tag Team Champions,
FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler), along with Stokely, who
was still confined to a wheelchair. Schiavone asked them
about the new #1 contenders for the AEW World Tag Team
Titles, Mark Davis and Jake Doyle of the Don Callis Family.
Stokely took the mic from Schiavone and refused to run down
Don Callis and the rest of the Family since that’s what
everyone else does in AEW. Instead, he showed respect to
Davis and Doyle and said they have it all. They have it all
except the ability to beat the greatest tag team in the
world today, FTR.

Wheeler ran through FTR’s accomplishments, including winning
multiple tag team of the year awards, and said no one has
their resume, and no one can do what they do. He said Davis
and Doyle are good, but they aren’t FTR good. Harwood had
Schiavone ask him what he hated most about these people.
Harwood said the fans always like the new, shiny thing. He
said Doyle and Davis look good as a tag team, so they were
put together, and now, with one victory, they already have a
shot at FTR’s AEW World Tag Team Championships. They have
the luxury of calling when they want their shot. But they’ll
have to face the greatest tag team of all time. And there’s
only one FTR. Top guys, out.

Marina Shafir of the Death Riders def. Zayda Steel of
SkyFlight

Empty heading
Before the next match, we heard from CRU, Lio Rush, Action
Andretti and Lacey Lane, who issued a challenge to the
Rascalz!

As Zayda Steel made her way to the ring, we took a special
look at the newest member of SkyFlight.

Jon Moxley was with Shafir during her entrance and joined
commentary for his unique perspective on this match. Steel
sent Shafir to the outside almost immediately with a
dropkick and a head-scissors. Steel went for a dive to the
outside, but Shafir caught her! Shafir tried to chop Steel,
but missed and hit the ring post! Steel threw Shafir back in
the ring and went to the top, but Shafir ducked under her
attack and hit a stiff kick right to Steel’s face as Moxley
shouted encouragement from commentary.

Shafir remained in control until she ate a back elbow and
then a lung blower from Steel! Steel nailed a rising knee in
the corner, but Shafir quickly cut her off with a brutal
uranage. Shafir locked in a full nelson before switching her
grip and taunting Steel. Shafir pulled Steel up to her feet
and nailed a strike, but when she tried another, Steel
turned it into a waistlock. Shafir escaped by boxing Steel
in the knee and then getting the submission win with
Mother’s Milk.

As Shafir exited through the crowd, the Don Callis Family
entered for the next match, as Callis joined Moxley on
commentary.

Don Callis Family (“The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher, “Walking
Weapon” Josh Alexander and El Clon) def. SkyFlight (Scorpio
Sky, Dante Martin and Darius Martin)

Empty heading
As Fletcher, Alexander and El Clon made their entrance,
Moxley and Callis went back and forth on commentary, with
Moxley saying that what the Death Riders do is different
than the Callis Family. The conversation escalated with
Moxley rising to his feet. Callis left the desk, and Moxley
started to make his exit, but he was attacked from behind by
Rocky Romero and Lance Archer! Wheeler Yuta and Daniel
Garcia tried to come to Moxley’s aid, but El Clon, Fletcher
and Alexander joined the flight. Claudio Castagnoli joined
the mix, and this turned into an all-out brawl! During the
chaos, SkyFlight ran out, and all three members dove over
the top onto the Callis Family and the Death Riders!

Order was finally restored, and the scheduled match got
underway, with Darius starting against Fletcher. SkyFlight
made quick tags to work on Fletcher’s arm until he put Sky
down with a bodyslam and made the tag to El Clon. Clon kept
Sky down by stomping his arm and brought in Alexander with a
tag. Sky got free of Alexander and made a tag to Darius, who
nailed a Spanish Fly on Alexander and a dive to Fletcher on
the outside. Dante tagged in for some double-team offense
with Darius to get a two-count. Fletcher tried to distract
on the outside, which allowed Alexander to avoid more
double-team offense and run Darius into Dante. Alexander
tagged El Clon, who opened up on Darius in the corner and
threw him into Fletcher for a Michinoku Driver, as Clon came
off the top with a stomp.

Clon tagged Fletcher back in and punished Darius before
taking a cheap shot at Dante. Darius got backed into the
Callis Family corner and was in significant trouble.
Finally, he chopped his way free of Alexander and kicked him
loose, so Fletcher made the tag. However, Darius was ready
with a suplex, which allowed him to tag Dante, while
Fletcher tagged El Clon. Dante opened up on El Clon with a
dropkick and then avoided a charge in the corner so he could
come off the top with a crossbody for a two-count. After a
series of reversals, El Clon hit a delayed Pele kick to put
Dante back in the corner. Fletcher tagged in and knocked Sky
off the apron with a kick before nailing Dante in the corner
with a running boot. Fletcher tried for the brainbuster, but
Sky pulled Dante down and launched him into a DDT on
Fletcher! Darius tagged back in, as SkyFlight went into
tandem offense with Dante and Darius hitting a double DDT on
Fletcher, which was broken up.

Alexander handled Sky on the outside with a slam onto the
apron. On the other side, El Clon avoided an attack from the
flying Dante and dropped him with a clothesline on the ramp.
He followed with a moonsault that landed knee-first on
Dante! Back in the ring, Darius got caught in an ankle lock
by Alexander, but was able to escape and tried to get on the
top rope. Alexander brought him down the hard way with an
Argentine Powerbomb, followed by a devastating C4 to get the
win for the Callis Family. As they celebrated, Konosuke
Takeshita returned to join them in the ring. He walked right
by Callis and hugged Fletcher before holding up Fletcher’s
arm. Callis ran to the other side of Fletcher, to grab the
other arm, as Takeshita held up El Clon’s arm, and the whole
Family celebrated.

Roderick Strong is Coming for Claudio Castagnoli & TNT
Champion Mark Briscoe Challenges El Clon!

Empty heading
Lexy Nair was with Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy and
offered huge congratulations to Strong for his victory over
Hechicero Friday night at CMLL to become the #1 contender to
Claudio Castagnoli’s CMLL World Heavyweight Championship.
Strong told Castagnoli he wasn’t done with him or the Death
Riders, so now he’s going to break his back and take his
title. Cassidy tried to give a high five, but Strong said it
wasn’t about him and OC, it was just about Strong. Cassidy
tried to offer support, though he said Strong wouldn’t allow
him to join in Mexico. Strong tried to exit, but TNT
Champion Mark Briscoe brought him back over to smooth things
over. Briscoe made a declaration to El Clon and blamed him
for what happened to Hologram. Briscoe said he was impressed
by El Clon’s win over Komander last week, and he’s not
ducking anyone, so how about they fight for the TNT Title
next week on Collision?

“Like the old saying goes, when you’re down to Conglomerate,
you’re happy to share your plate. Whether you speak English
or Español, share the butter, share the roll!”

MJF Wants the Greatest Legacy

Empty heading
We took a look back at MJF’s successful AEW World
Championship defense against ROH World Champion Bandido on
Dynamite and a second, successful defense at Limitless
Wrestling Friday night against Alec Price. MJF described
himself as a traveling champion with many defenses that will
make his second reign better than his first and with a
legacy greater than all of the greatest traveling champions
of all time combined.

“Megasus” Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford def. Danielle Kamela &
Viva Van

Empty heading
Ford returned to action for the first time in over three
months. Bayne flattened Kamela at the bell with a diving
clothesline before turning her attention to Van, whom she
pulled over the top with a suplex. She put both Kamela and
Van in the corner and splashed both before putting both down
with a Samoan drop. Ford tagged in and went to the top to
hit a Doomsday Device on Kamela from Bayne’s shoulders to
get the win and make quick work of their opponents. Marina
Shafir joined them in the ring to celebrate, but they were
interrupted by “Timeless” Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa and
Luther on the ramp. Storm said Shafir can’t hide behind
Bayne and Ford, and Shirakawa said they didn’t forget what
the women in the ring had done to the Timeless Love Bombs.

Storm said she’s going to rip Ford’s other arm off and smack
Bayne with it before delivering her own unique threat to
Shafir. “The only difference between me and God is that God
doesn’t wear any lipstick!”

Shirakawa said they'd better watch out for the Timeless Love
Bombs!

Swerve Strickland and Kevin Knight Exchange Words

Empty heading
Lexy Nair asked Strickland about the return of Kenny Omega
this past Wednesday on Dynamite, but Strickland tried to
blow it off. She asked what the plan was to regain the AEW
World Championship, and he said it’s the same as always: to
win. Nair said someone has requested time with Strickland
and introduced “The Jet” Kevin Knight. Knight said he’s been
thinking about how Swerve described Knight as the future.
Knight said he’s been hearing that word too often, but he’s
about the here and now. He beat Darby Allin. He beat
Kazuchika Okada. He’s the present. Strickland took that as
fighting words, but said Knight should do something
meaningful like win a title, like the AEW World Trios
Titles. He said he meant what he said about Knight being the
future and thought he’d be a future main eventer, but not to
take 5-6 years to get there. Strickland chuckled and walked
off.

AEW National Championship #1 Contender Match: “Jungle” Jack
Perry def. Anthony Bowens

Empty heading
AEW National Champion Ricochet joined commentary to see who
his next challenger would be coming out of this match.

Bowens backed Perry into the corner at the jump and tried to
celebrate, but Perry quickly came back and wrestled Bowens
to the mat. Bowens got back up and worked Perry into a
pinning predicament to get a two-count, so he decided to
celebrate again. The two continued to go back and forth but
ended up in a stalemate, so Perry offered a scissors
handshake. When Bowens accepted it, Perry bit him! Perry
tried to run up the ropes, but Bowens crotched him and
knocked Perry to the floor. He followed Perry out and tried
to attack him on the guardrail, but Perry avoided it. Bowens
caught Perry on his shoulders and dropped him face-first on
the apron. He threw Perry back in, but Perry came right back
out with a dive. Bowens was ready for it, so Perry turned it
into a bulldog on the floor!

Back in the ring, the two traded near-falls until Perry hit
a superkick, only for Bowens to come right back with a
clothesline. Perry stopped Bowens with a shot to the side
and then hit his running knee to get the three count. He’ll
be the next challenger to Ricochet’s AEW National Title.
After the match, he raised Bowens’ arm. As Ricochet talked
trash from commentary, Perry dove onto him, and the two
spilled into the back!

Jon Moxley and the Death Riders Address the Don Callis
Family

Empty heading
Moxley talked about business and how the Don Callis Family
handled it. PAC asked who the Callis Family thought they
were, though he said it in much more colorful terms. He
asked them if they knew who they were dealing with and how
the Death Riders handled things. Daniel Garcia made a
passionate speech about what a real family is, and that’s
what the Death Riders are. Moxley came back to say he’s seen
all kinds of terrible people in this business.

“Of all the bad people in professional wrestling, I’m the
worst.”

AEW World Trios Championship Match: “Hangman” Adam Page &
JetSpeed (“Speedball” Mike Bailey and “The Jet” Kevin
Knight) def. The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and
Katsuyori Shibata) (c) - NEW AEW WORLD TRIOS CHAMPIONS

Empty heading
What a way to end Maximum Carnage with the AEW World Trios
Championship up for grabs in our main event! HOOK was out
with The Opps for their championship defense and joined the
commentary desk, although he wasn’t able to speak after
Hangman wrapped a chain around his neck last week in the
Lights Out match on Dynamite.

Hangman and Joe were about to start things off, but Joe
didn’t want to give Hangman the pleasure, so he tagged out
to Shibata. With the crowd chanting for Speedball, Page made
the tag to him. Shibata feigned a handshake and cheap-
shotted Bailey, only for Bailey to come back with a kick
flurry. He tagged Knight and the two unloaded on Shibata
with Knight skying for a splash to get a near-fall. Shibata
cut Knight off with a forearm and a chop so that he could
bring in Hobbs for the first time. Hobbs nearly took
Knight’s head off with a massive lariat!

Knight avoided Hobbs long enough to bring in Page, but Hobbs
quickly took him down and tagged Shibata. However, Page was
ready and dumped Shibata with a fallaway slam. Page and
Shibata traded running attacks in opposite corners until
Page tried for a Deadeye with Shibata escaping, only to eat
a basement lariat. Shibata kicked out at two, so Page
brought him to the corner and tagged Bailey. Shibata stopped
a Bailey kick and dropped Bailey with multiple strikes to
send him to the apron. Shibata followed with a suplex on the
apron and followed with another on the floor! Bailey was in
significant trouble, as the Opps had complete control of
this one!

Joe continued the punishment on Bailey until Speedball hit a
missile dropkick! Joe tagged Hobbs, but Bailey tagged Page,
who unloaded on all three members of The Opps and took Joe
and Hobbs down with a moonsault from the top to the floor.
He put Hobbs on the apron to go for a Deadeye, but Hobbs
picked up Page and was about to slam him back-first onto the
apron until Bailey swept Hobbs legs, which sent Page
crashing down on top of Hobbs!

Page tagged Knight, who tried to springboard into Hobbs, but
was caught and put down harshly. Joe tagged in and took
advantage of the damage Hobbs did with a powerslam that got
him a two-count. The Opps took turns crushing Knight in the
corner. Shibata suplexed Knight, and Joe squished him with a
senton, but Page broke up Hobbs’ attempt for a pin. Shibata
trapped Page in a choke while Joe did the same to Bailey, as
Hobbs tried to backdrop Knight, but Knight reversed it into
a stack pin on Hobbs to get the three count out of nowhere!

We have NEW AEW WORLD TRIOS CHAMPIONS! Congrats to Hangman
and JetSpeed! Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana came out to
the ramp to show their respect as we brought Collision
Maximum Carnage to a close!
