Wrestling yet again suffered another loss, as independent
wrestler Jeff Cannonball passed away Thursday after a
yearlong battle with ALS. Wife Terra Calaway and members of
the Guerriero family posted the news on social media
Thursday morning. It was reported by Sean Ross Sapp on the
In The Weeds podcast that he'd been told by an indie
promoter that Guerriero had one standing request when
booked: that he get a few minutes away on a show no matter
what, so he could say goodnight to his son.
Sadly, one of the shows in our Indies Helping part on this
blog helping below raised funds for Jeff's care.
The Wrestling Observer reported last Wednesday that WWE...or
more correctly, Kevin Steen/Owens assembled a nearly 40-
minute video with PAC’s friends sharing their memories of
him.
WWE first briefly honored (as Neville) PAC with a tribute
graphic and Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Bayley, and Becky Lynch
as well as others wearing armbands and mentions on the mike
by Corey Graves and Vic Joseph on WWE programming.
Then, last week, WWE released a 39-minute video with those
who knew PAC (Benjamin Satterley) speaking about how much
they loved and admired him, including comments from Kevin
Owens, Becky Lynch, Cody Rhodes, Bayley, Sami Zayn, Big
Cass, Penta and Rey Fenix, TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd), William
Regal, Finn Balor, and Corey Graves.
Regal said: “With the exception of my family, there’s
maybe less than a handful of people in the world I thought
more of than Ben...He was the best, he was the absolute
best. My deepest condolences, especially to Natalie (PAC’s
wife) and his family. I’ll miss you forever, pal.”
Balor, one of PAC’s best friends, said about PAC: “Hey
mate, I just want to say: thanks for being a friend. I’ll
never forget meeting you for the first time on some
wrestling mats in the basement of a church in Newcastle when
we were just kids. And from there, we went on to be such
great friends...From our nights out in Japan, to our time
together in NXT, to traveling the world together with WWE,
to visiting my parents in Ireland, to visiting your wife and
your mum in Newcastle and having cups of tea together. “I
think our bond was so strong because we had such similar
upbringings, such similar values. We’d have the craic about
the football, we talked about ‘Father Ted,’ we talked about
pretty much everything except for wrestling. And you’ll be
with me everywhere we go. And like we would always say,
‘What a laugh, mate.’ What a laugh I had with you. I can’t
thank you enough. I love you, Ben.”
Notable in both AEW and WWE's tributes is how, beyond
anything he did in the ring, Benjamin Satterly was loved
above all for the human being he was, quiet and humble. Yet
at the same time, Satterly loved going out away from the
ring, dancing with his wife Natalie and friends ska and
reggae music.
Sami Zayn said he and PAC knew how much they cared for each
other, but he wants PAC to know how grateful he is for him.
"I just love you, bro. I’ll never forget you. I’ll never
forget the memories we had...Thank you. Just, thank you.
Thank you. You know, that’s what I don’t know if I ever
really got to express to you. I told you I loved you, you
told me you loved me. We knew the brotherhood, we knew the
bond, we knew all that stuff. But I don’t think I ever got
to thank you. So thanks, man. Thank you, buddy. Thanks for
everything.”
Owens said, (People like PAC) are going to a better
place. They’re in a better place.’ But from everything I’ve
heard about Andy (Butcher) and everything I know about Ben,
I’d say they’re the ones making it a better place now.”
Cody Rhodes disclosed in a recent Wrestletalk interview that
it was Kevin Owens’ idea to set up a camera backstage at
Smackdown two weeks ago for wrestlers to record tributes to
PAC. At that point, neither Rhodes (or Steen) had no idea
if these videos would be anything but personal therapy. WWE
finally decided to post the videos on YouTube.
The season of giving has begun, with the leaves turning here
in South Jersey, with pumpkin spice and Spooky Season
underway. College football and the NFL are in full
swing....Spirit Halloween is open, and people are buying
Halloween candy... some even for the neighborhood kids...
Mariah Carey just started playing in department stores, and
the first Holiday ad appeared on my TV.
That means that local independent wrestling promotions need
to to think about what efforts they can undertake to help
their communities during 2026's Holiday season....NOW.
Given the political climate, more help will be needed from
every private source possible to help the hungry, the sick,
the cold, the homeless, sexual/domestic violence victims,
animal welfare, and too many more.
