Remembering Jonathan “Jaka” Echeverria

This week, the wrestling community mourns the passing of
Jaka (Jonathan Echevarria) at age 39, following a heart
attack that had placed him in critical condition in the ICU.

A beloved figure across the independent circuit, Jaka
debuted in 2007 and became a core member of Beyond
Wrestling’s Team Pazuzu, alongside Mike Santana and Ortiz.
He twice held the EVOLVE Tag Team Championship with Chris
Dickinson, defended those titles at WrestleMania Axxess in
2018, and later appeared on AEW Dark: Elevation in 2021. His
career also spanned Chikara, AIW, JAPW, GCW, CZW, Progress
Wrestling, and other promotions.

Beyond Wrestling’s tribute—“The original Ace. RIP Jaka.”—and
Mike Santana’s emotional reaction—“Truly GUTTED”—underscore
how deeply he was respected both in the ring and among
peers.

Earlier this month, his sister Annette Rivera launched a
GoFundMe to help with hospital bills and recovery costs. As
the wrestling community continues to rally behind his family
during this difficult time, fans and friends are encouraged
to contribute.

Over $27,000 has already been donated.
