WWE today officially announced that all of its programming
in Japan will move to Netflix starting October 1.
Raw, Smackdown, NXT, premium live events, and the current
video library available in other Netflix markets will also
be available for Japanese customers.
The WWE broadcast rights in the country are currently held
by ABEMA, but that contract expires on September 30.
The final WWE broadcast on the ABEMA streaming service will
be the September 28 episode of Raw, which airs on September
29 in Japan.
After this move, the countries of Austria, Germany,
Switzerland, China, South Africa, and all of Sub-Saharan
Africa will be the only ones not fully on Netflix due to
current contracts with local broadcasters. PLEs in Austria,
Germany, and Switzerland already air on Netflix.
