AEW Collision was live on TNT and HBO Max from Colorado
Springs, and the inaugural Continental Challenge Cup got
underway with three first-round matches, as we continued the
journey to AEW All In: London at Wembley Stadium in 22 days!
The C3 began with Claudio Castagnoli outlasting Ace Austin
in a great clash of styles, which gave the Death Rider the
first-ever victory in the Continental Challenge Cup. Later,
Orange Cassidy faced Matt Sydal for the first time, as
Cassidy managed to get the win to advance to the round of
eight. In the main event, the first Continental Champion,
Eddie Kingston, took everything Jake Doyle could throw at
him before locking Doyle in the Stretch Plum for the
submission victory to advance.
Darby Allin challenged “The Jet” Kevin Knight to put up his
TNT Title in a Falls Count Anywhere match at All In: London,
but Knight decided to leave Allin hanging and give Jericho a
TNT Title match this Wednesday on Dynamite. Also on
Dynamite, we found out that the #2 spot in the Casino
Gauntlet will be decided in a 3-way match featuring MJF,
Nick Wayne and “Speedball” Mike Bailey, who earned a bounce-
back victory over Myron Reed of The Rascalz.
Plus, the Death Riders got an assist from The Dogs to beat
Bang Bang Gang and “Jungle” Jack Perry. And the Brawling
Birds were dominant in a tag team victory, only to be laid
out by their All In: London opponents, AEW Women’s World Tag
Team Champions Divine Dominion!

Riders' Claudio Castagnoli def. Ace Austin
Before the first match of the AEW Continental Challenge Cup,
we had to relive the unforgettable night in Arena México for
Grand Slam: Mexico!
Castagnoli took Austin right down at the start and stomped
him into the mat. Austin used his agility to get out of a
hip toss and hit one of his own, but Castagnoli returned the
favor and then some before moving Austin to the corner. He
missed an uppercut in the opposite corner, but was able to
get away from Austin briefly until Austin hit a powerful
kick to the back and followed with a basement dropkick.
Austin squatted Castagnoli and dumped him on the mat in an
amazing feat of strength! Austin flew over the top rope, but
Castagnoli caught him and dumped Austin on the guardrail
with reckless abandon. Castagnoli whipped Austin into
another guardrail and came off the apron with an axe-handle
smash. Austin was able to use his evasiveness to get away
from Castagnoli on the apron and followed with a big kick to
the chest. Austin catapulted himself over the ring post and
turnbuckle connectors to take out Castagnoli on the floor!
Castagnoli quickly turned things around back in the ring
when he dumped Austin over the top and to the floor, with
Austin hitting the corner of the ring on the way down!
Castagnoli continued to wear down Austin on the mat until
Austin lifted Castagnoli off the ground onto his shoulders,
returning him to a vertical base in another great display of
leg strength. Castagnoli escaped and got Austin back to the
mat with a sleeper! The crowd chanted “ACE,” and he managed
to get back to a vertical base, but Castagnoli stopped him
with a right hand and an uppercut in the corner. He covered
Austin for a two-count. Castagnoli missed an elbow drop, and
Austin blasted him with a powerful dropkick!
Austin blocked a lariat and lit Castagnoli up with a combo
before slamming him to the mat for a leg drop. Austin
charged at Castagnoli in the corner, but got put on the top
rope. Castagnoli chopped Austin, only for Austin to come off
the top for a hurricanrana! With Castagnoli on the outside,
Austin hit a twisting dive to the floor! He threw Castagnoli
back in and came off the top with a guillotine leg drop! 1-
2-Castagnoli kicked out! Austin tried The Fold, but
Castagnoli lifted him into the air to stop it, so Austin
rolled him up for a near-fall! Austin avoided an uppercut in
the corner and then jumped into another from Castagnoli when
he tried to re-enter the ring. Austin managed to kick out at
two.
Castagnoli went to grab Austin for the giant swing, but
Austin was ready for it and put a leg lock around
Castagnoli’s head and neck! Castagnoli stood up to get out
of it and traded victory rolls until Castagnoli deadlifted
Austin right off the mat for a twisting slam! Castagnoli
called for the end, so Austin lit him up with a thrust kick.
Austin charged at Castagnoli, who popped him up in the air
for an uppercut to get the three-count! Castagnoli advances
to the round of eight with the first win in Continental
Challenge Cup history!
Will Ospreay’s Run to Wembley Ran Through Mexico City
Before All In: London and his AEW World Championship match
with Kenny Omega, Ospreay had to settle a personal score
with Mark Davis this past Wednesday at Grand Slam: Mexico in
a Mexico City Street Fight! He managed to survive a bloody
battle and sent a message to Omega:
“I can say I’m ready. Can you?”
Motor City Machine Guns Have Everyone in Their Sights
After making their shocking AEW debut in Detroit two weeks
ago, Motor City Machine Guns believe they are home, and now
everyone is in their sights!
The Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter & Alex Windsor) def. Viva
Van & VertVixen
Hayter and Windsor immediately isolated VertVixen in their
corner and lit her up with chops while making quick tags.
Van ran in, so she ate stereo chops from the Birds, and
VertVixen got the same treatment! Windsor tagged Hayter in
for a quick combo of double-team offense that put VertVixen
in the corner. Hayter chopped her and sent VertVixen to the
opposite side. VertVixen stunned Hayter with a kick from the
mat and another coming off the ropes. She tagged Van, who
came off the top with a crossbody onto Hayter for a near-
fall! Hayter broke through a double clothesline and ran
through VertVixen and Van with one of her own!
Windsor tagged in and unloaded on both opponents! She put
Van down with a Blue Thunder Bomb and threw her to the
floor. Windsor tagged Hayter, so they double-headbutted
VertVixen and sandwiched her in the middle of the ring with
lariats. They picked up VertVixen and finished her off with
2 Birds, 1 Stone to get the pinfall victory!
The celebration didn’t last long, as the music of AEW
Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion played, but
with the Birds looking at the entrance ramp, Megan Bayne and
Lena Kross attacked from behind! They absolutely destroyed
the Birds and sent them to the floor! Kross sent Hayter into
the steel steps while Bayne flung Windsor into the
barricade! Kross and Bayne hit Windsor with Divine
Intervention on the timekeeper’s table! The champs walked
off while Hayter checked on Windsor.
Darby Allin Challenges Kevin Knight for the TNT Title in a
Falls Count Anywhere Match at All In: London!
After pinning TNT Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight in a trios
match at Grand Slam: Mexico, Allin reminded Knight that he
started all of this by attacking him outside the ring while
Allin was on a stretcher. Allin thinks Knight and everyone
forgot what he’s capable of, so at Wembley Stadium, he wants
Knight for the TNT Title in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
And this time, Allin will finish it outside the ring!
AEW Continental Challenge Cup First Round Match: The
Conglomeration’s Orange Cassidy def. SkyFlight's Matt Sydal
Orange Cassidy was out to “Jane” much to the delight of
everyone in Colorado Springs, while Sydal was wrestling his
first singles match in AEW in 26 months! Cassidy controlled
and seemed to annoy Sydal in a sequence on the mat, which he
concluded with a thumbs-up. Sydal came right back to turn
things around and returned a thumbs-up after a crucifix pin
for a one-count. Cassidy and Sydal traded armdrags, and then
each avoided another attempt. Sydal took Cassidy down, but
took too long to moonsault, so Cassidy rolled him up for a
near-fall.
Cassidy knocked Sydal down and tried a moonsault of his own,
but missed. Sydal got back up and showed how it was done,
although Cassidy was able to kick out in time. Cassidy and
Sydal traded reversals into the corner until Sydal hit a
clothesline. Cassidy and Sydal battled on the middle and top
ropes with strikes until they knocked each other to the
floor!
After knocking Cassidy off the second rope and back into the
ring, Sydal took him over with a hurricanrana and a trio of
kicks that laid Cassidy out on the mat! Sydal came off the
top with a meteora and tried to cover Cassidy, but Cassidy
kicked out in time! Cassidy pulled himself back to the
corner and then avoided a charge from Sydal on the opposite
side before taking him down with a top rope elbow. Cassidy
spun over Sydal and turned it into a Stundog Millionaire!
Cassidy trapped Sydal’s legs in a pin attempt, but Sydal
managed to get out of it! Cassidy and Sydal exchanged
reversals until OC dug deep for a Michinoku Driver! Sydal
kicked out in time!
Cassidy loaded up an Orange Punch, but Sydal kicked it away.
He knocked OC to the mat with a quick kick combo. Cassidy
seemed angry and put his hands in his pockets! He ducked and
spun away from Sydal to hit a dropkick and followed with a
dive to the floor. Back in the ring, Cassidy spun around
Sydal for a DDT and hooked him in a deep pin, yet Sydal
managed to kick out again! Sydal avoided the Orange Punch
and nearly pinned Cassidy for the win! Sydal crushed Cassidy
with a jumping knee and went up top for a Shooting Star
Press. Cassidy managed to block it on the way down and
nailed Sydal with Beach Break for the pinfall victory!
Cassidy moves to the round of eight! What a great first-time
matchup!
Jon Moxley Sends a Message to “Jungle” Jack Perry
Jon Moxley was with Claudio Castagnoli, whom he called a
machine. Moxley is without his AEW Continental Championship,
as it was taken from him as the prize for the winner of the
Continental Challenge Cup. He is ripe for the picking for
all the hungry, young predators like Jack Perry. Mox has
always had a soft spot for Perry because he’s got guts, but
tonight Perry is with the wrong team, a team Mox doesn’t
like, and it’s a bad night for Perry’s new friends.
The Rascalz’ Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz def. Aaron
Solo & Steven Fuerte
Wentz quickly took Solo down with a jawbreaker into his
knee, followed by a cutter, and tagged Xavier. They put Solo
back down with a pair of elbows and a rising kick into a
German Suplex! Fuerte tagged and ran right at the Rascalz,
so they sent him to the corner for alternating, quick
strikes in the corner. Xavier catapulted Fuerte into a
thrust kick from Wentz. Wentz went to the top for a meteora
to Fuerte across Xavier’s knees. The Rascalz finished Fuerte
with Hot Fire Flame for the win!
The Rascalz got on the microphone to remind everyone that
they won Mile High Madness the last time they were here.
They get it done every time they are out there and have
proven themselves as a trio, as a tag team, and with Myrod
Reed taking the mic, he said he was ready to handle things
in singles action because tonight, the “Young GOAT” is in
action. He called out his opponent, “Speedball” Mike Bailey,
for their match!
"Speedball" Mike Bailey def. The Rascalz’ Myron Reed
Reed and Bailey exchanged leg sweeps and armdrags before
catching each other’s kicks. They put each other’s legs down
and shook hands. They broke off and avoided each other’s
kicks until Bailey hit Reed with rapid-fire kicks to the
sides. Bailey got caught between the ropes with a guillotine
leg drop from Reed, who flipped over Bailey back to the ring
with a sunset flip, which he followed with a stiff kick to
the face! Reed hit a springboard dropkick from the bottom
rope to send Bailey to the outside. Reed charged for a
drive, but Bailey got to the apron, so Reed slid underneath
only for Speedball to come off the ropes with a moonsault
onto Reed!
The back-and-forth continued with the two throwing strikes
on the apron. Bailey got a brief advantage with a kick to
the chest, but Reed caught another kick and pulled himself
up the ropes for an enzuigiri. He tried to come off the
second turnbuckle connector, so Bailey went back in the ring
and swept Reed’s legs on the apron. Bailey tried for the
shooting star knees, but Reed moved, so Bailey landed on the
hardest part of the ring! Reed tried to pull Speedball off
the apron with a cutter, but he blocked it by landing on his
feet! Bailey put a thrust kick on Reed’s chin and hit a
springboard tornillo to take Reed down on the floor! Bailey
was clearly in pain and remained down until he limped up to
his feet and threw Reed back in the ring.
Bailey was slow to get to the top turnbuckle, so Reed was
there to meet him, but Bailey shoved him off. Bailey tried
to come off the top, so Reed moved, and Bailey landed on his
feet, although he immediately screamed in pain. Reed charged
Bailey in the corner and got sent to the apron, but came
back with an enzuigiri. Reed went up top, so Bailey hit an
enzuigiri to slow him down. Bailey brought Reed down with an
avalanche hurricanrana!
Speedball tried a Time Adventure kick, but Reed matrixed out
of range and reached back for a cutter! He ran into a
Speedball’s feet in the corner, which Bailey tried to take
advantage of with Ultima Weapon, but Reed turned it into a
cutter on the way down! Bailey bailed to the outside as the
crowd chanted, “HOLY SHIT!”
Reed flew over the ring post to clobber Bailey with a dive
to the floor! He threw Bailey back in and went up top for a
No Cap Splash, but Bailey avoided it and caught Reed with a
Green Tea Plunge with a deep pin for the three-count! What a
match!
David Finlay Wants to Finish Jay White in their Continental
Challenge Cup Match
David Finlay and Clark Connors ran down the recent matchups
between The Dogs and Bang Bang Gang, with The Dogs
admittedly being on the winning side quite often, which is
why Connors asked who was going to beat Jay White on
Dynamite in the C3? Finlay said that would be him. Finlay
said White was back on the shelf after facing him once since
returning, and he doesn’t have what it takes to beat him.
Finlay said he doesn’t care who he faces after he beats
White, even if it’s a member of the Death Riders. The Dogs
called out many of the teams in the tag division by name and
said, “Who let The Dogs out? We did.”
CMLL World Women's Champion Persephone & Hikaru Shida def.
TBS Champion Maya World & Hyan
Hyan was going to start with Shida, but she tagged
Persephone, and we were finally underway. Hyan took
Persephone down and nearly shocked her with a Northern
Lights Suplex that got a two-count. World tagged in and lit
up Persephone with forearms, but when she hit the ropes,
Shida hit her from behind and continued the attack while the
referee was distracted. World fought off both with strikes
and a headlock/headscissors combo! World connected on a
spinning heel kick that got a two-count. She tagged Hyan,
but Persephone quickly turned it around with a dropkick.
Shida attacked Hyan on the floor, so World tried to dive at
Shida and Persephone, but they were ready with their
forearms as she came through the ropes. They threw World to
the barricade and isolated Hyan.
Hyan finally made the tag to World, and Shida tagged in on
the other side. World sent Shida to the ropes with a
hurricanrana and grabbed Persephone for a tornado DDT as she
kicked Shida! World tagged Hyan back in for a double-team
that nearly got the win. Persephone pulled World to the
floor and threw her to the barricade as Hyan got another
two-count on Shida. Shida avoided a kick from Hyan and
cracked her with a high knee. Persephone nailed Hyan with a
missile dropkick, and Shida hit a Falcon Arrow, but World
came back in to make the save!
Hyan blocked Katana from Shida and grabbed her for an
assisted Flatliner, but this time Persephone came in to make
the save. Persephone tried to powerbomb World, but she
escaped it and threw Persephone to the outside with a
fallaway slam. And she followed right out with a dive that
was on target! Back in the ring, Hyan speared Shida! Shida
kicked out at two! Shida broke away from Hyan with a big
strike and dumped her on her head with a cutthroat tombstone
for the win!
TNT Champion “The Jet” Kevin Knight Challenges Jericho for
Dynamite!
Lexy Nair asked Knight what he thought about Darby Allin’s
All In: London challenge. Knight wanted to talk about what
he wanted. Maybe he’ll grant Allin his wish, but not yet,
because Allin wouldn’t have pinned Knight at Grand Slam:
Mexico if not for Jericho, who was the first AEW World
Champion and a former TV champion on this very network. But
Jericho’s never been a TNT Champion, so how about he faces
Knight for the TNT Title this Wednesday on Dynamite in
Vegas. And then maybe they can talk about what Allin wants.
A G1 Climax Update on Defending Champion “The Alpha”
Konosuke Takeshita
As the defending champion of the NJPW G1 Climax, Takeshita
has been in Japan competing in the grueling tournament, but
finds himself at the top of the A Block with 10 points. The
finals are one week away, as Takeshita tries to become the
fifth back-to-back winner. The last to go back-to-back?
Takeshita’s bitter rival, “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada,
in 2021-2022.
Death Riders (AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, PAC,
Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia) def. "Jungle" Jack Perry &
Bang Bang Gang (Colten Gunn, Austin Gunn and Juice Robinson)
Bang Bang Gang whipped the crowd into a frenzy with a “Gunns
Up” chant at the bell, as Austin Gunn started things off
with Moxley. Moxley quickly took Gunn down, so he tagged
Perry in for a preview of their C3 match on Dynamite. Mox
decided to tag out to Yuta, which was met with loud boos.
Perry handled Yuta and took him down with a dropkick. Colten
Gunn tagged in and nailed Yuta, before bringing Austin back
in, who then brought Robinson in for the first time. Yuta
bit Robinson’s hand to cut off a punch and tagged Garcia,
who was quickly taken down by Robinson. PAC charged in and
also went down quickly with a hip toss. PAC and Garcia
stopped Robinson’s jabs, but he came off the ropes to take
both down with a crossbody! Yuta charged Robinson, who sent
him over the top. Robinson then did the same to Garcia and
PAC with a double clothesline! Moxley poked Robinson in the
eyes, so Perry came in and dropkicked Moxley to the floor!
Back in the ring, PAC kicked Robinson’s leg out from under
him, which became a target for the Death Riders over the
next several minutes. Just when it seemed like Robinson
would be able to tag out, all four Death Riders charged into
the Bang Bang/Perry corner to take them out. Robinson
finally fought off Garcia to tag Perry as Moxley tagged in
on the other side! Perry unloaded on Moxley with strikes and
a flying forearm. Perry charged Moxley in the corner, but
was immediately cut off and knocked to the mat. Moxley
lifted Perry for a piledriver, but Perry escaped. They wiped
each other out with clotheslines simultaneously. Moxley
tagged out to Yuta, and Perry brought in Austin, who shot
out of the corner to trip up Yuta and come over the top with
a neck snap. Garcia came in, and Austin quickly took him
down as well. He tagged in Colten as PAC came in, but Austin
spun him around and hit a DDT! Moxley came in, but Colten
knocked him down with a flying clothesline! He took down PAC
and then hit Yuta with a Famouser! The Death Riders broke up
the pin!
Colten wound up in the corner and suffered the barrage of
Death Riders' attacks until Robinson got back in the ring
and stopped them with jabs. Everyone exchanged big impact
moves until Moxley dropped Colten with a cutter, and Perry
followed with a superkick to Mox. Perry ran to the corner
and hit a moonsault from the top rope to the floor on Moxley
and the Death Riders! Back in the ring, Colten stopped
Yuta’s Busaiku Knee with a dropkick and called in Austin for
3:10 to Yuma, but Marina Shafir got on the apron for a
distraction. The Dogs hit the ring to pull Austin down and
into the ring post, crotch-first! Yuta hit Colten with a low
blow, and Garcia pushed him into a Busaiku Knee from Yuta,
who pinned Colten for the victory!
Perry leveled Yuta after the match and called Moxley into
the ring, but the Death Riders collected Yuta and exited
without any further physicality.
“Speedball” Mike Bailey vs. MJF vs. Nick Wayne for the #2
Spot in the Casino Gauntlet Set for Dynamite
Bailey spoke of how special his match was at Grand Slam:
Mexico with “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher, but the bottom
line is he’s not the AEW International Champion. Bailey won
tonight and believes he still has momentum on his side
because he’s locked in. He heard MJF is trying to qualify
for the #2 spot in the Casino Gauntlet at All In, and that’s
exactly the kind of match Bailey is looking for.
He was interrupted by Nick Wayne, who said Bailey is going
to fumble another opportunity. Wayne is the opportunist of
AEW, and he’s going to beat Bandido at Death Before Dishonor
on August 21 to become the youngest ROH World Champion of
all time. And he also wants to become the youngest AEW World
Champion, which all starts Wednesday on Dynamite, as he
steps up to MJF and Bailey to vie for the #2 spot in the
Casino Gauntlet!
AEW Remembers Dory Funk Jr.
Tony Schiavone narrated a look at the career of Dory Funk
Jr., who passed away earlier this week. In addition to being
part of one of the great wrestling families alongside the
legendary Terry Funk, Dory was also instrumental in training
many of today's wrestlers. We all send out our deepest
condolences to Dory’s wife, family, friends and fans all
over the world. May he rest in peace.
The Hurt Syndicate and Shane Taylor Promotions in Business?
Lexy Nair stood between The Hurt Syndicate and Shane Taylor
Promotions because Taylor asked for some time with MVP,
Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. He said he’ll make it
brief, but he wants to acquire their services and assist
them in their new business venture. They like to hurt
people, and STP likes to get paid, so not only will they get
rich, but they’ll make history working together. As a show
of good faith, Taylor handed MVP an envelope full of cash
for their time. Lashley checked it out and gave his approval
to MVP. MVP told Taylor he had their undivided attention and
they’ll be in touch.
“Jungle” Jack Perry Is Ready for Jon Moxley in the
Continental Challenge Cup
An angry Perry was with the Bang Bang Gang after their loss
to the Death Riders. Perry said his mom always told him to
stay away from gangs, but these guys are all right. Perry
addressed Moxley and said they would go one-on-one for the
first time all alone because no one will be allowed out
there under Continental Rules. Perry said it takes one loss,
one upset, and Moxley isn’t AEW Continental Champion
anymore. This Wednesday, he’s going to show Moxley what a
“sweet kid” is all about. Bang Bang Gang warned David Finlay
about dealing with Jay White this Wednesday on Dynamite
AEW Continental Challenge Cup First Round Match: Eddie
Kingston def. Jake Doyle of the Don Callis Family
Our main event was the third of three first-round matches in
the C3 before the tournament continues this Wednesday on
Dynamite. Doyle came to the ring with Trent Beretta, while
Kingston had Ortiz with him, before both seconds went to the
back. Before the match, Kingston said he won the first-ever
Continental Classic, and now he’s going to win the first-
ever Continental Challenge Cup. And it’ll be even sweeter to
take something from the Don Callis Family.
The crowd was firmly behind Kingston at the bell, but Doyle
quickly overpowered him with multiple shoulder blocks.
Kingston came back with chops, so Doyle quickly knocked him
back down. Doyle missed a charge in the corner, so Kingston
went for machine-gun chops, but Doyle was ready and moved.
Doyle clotheslined Kingston and sent him to the corner
before hitting him with another clothesline. Doyle threw
Kingston to the floor and clotheslined him against the
barricade. Kingston came back with headbutts and rolled in
the ring. Kingston hit a big chop, which Doyle immediately
answered with a bodyslam for a two-count.
Doyle drove his shoulder into Kingston’s midsection in the
corner and dropped him with a clothesline before another pin
attempt got another two-count. Kingston fought back with a
combo of strikes and a big chop to send Doyle to the corner.
He unloaded on Doyle with machine-gun chops. Kingston tried
to follow with an exploder, but Doyle blocked it and put
Kingston on the mat with a running powerslam. Kingston
kicked out in time!
Both men struggled to their feet and got to the corners.
Doyle charged, so Kingston got his boots up in time.
Kingston went to the middle rope and came off with a flying
shoulder block. Kingston dropped the straps, and the crowd
came alive! He threw Doyle over with an exploder, but Doyle
managed to kick out in time. Doyle clawed Kingston and threw
a massive forearm, dropping Kingston to his knees. Doyle
bounced off the ropes and hit a diving clothesline to the
back of Kingston’s neck! Doyle called for the end and set
Kingston up for a powerbomb, but he took too long, and
Kingston slipped free for a teardrop suplex! Kingston
covered, but again Doyle kicked out!
The crowd chanted “EDDIE!” He went for the Uraken, but Doyle
ducked and booted Kingston for a sitout powerbomb! 1-2-
KINGSTON KICKED OUT! Doyle picked Kingston up and peppered
him with a few big shots, which sent Kingston stumbling
around the ring. Doyle hit another shot to Kingston’s jaw,
so Kingston immediately responded with a Uraken to drop
Doyle to a knee! Doyle got back up, so Kingston dropped him
with another Uraken! Kingston locked Doyle in a Stretch Plum
and got the tapout for the victory! Kingston moves on to the
round of eight in the Continental Challenge Cup to bring
Collision to a close!
