The show started with a recap of Grayson Waller’s “pipe
bomb” promo from last week in which he called them all
losers. Also, Cruz Montana arrived, Tony D’Angelo made a
timely “Kangaroo Jack” reference, and in cast you missed it,
Grayson Waller thinks all the men in NXT are losers. And
that’s what you missed on NX-Glee.
Jaida Parker & Thea Hail vs Karmen Petrovic & Evolve Women’s
Champion Nikkita Lyons w/Nattie
My only quesiton about this match is are Angel and Berto of
Perros Del Mal hanging out to back up Petrovic like they did
Bronco Nima? Just curious.
Lyons started the match high-stepping, but it was Parker and
Petrovic that actually started wrestling. Parker used Hail
as a weapon to lay out Petrovic, but she fought back and
tripped up Hail just as Lyons tagged in a high kicked her.
Lyons went for a submission move, but when Hail got out of
it, Lyons came in for a double team. Parker didn’t like that
though and a brawl moved to the outside.
In the ring, Lyons put Hail down with a pearl river plunge
for a two count. Hail and Lyons went back and forth, but
Lyons was able to keep Hail from getting a tag to Parker.
She isolated her in the corner and Lyons and Petrovic traded
fast tags to beat up Hail. Lyons hit Hail with a big right
hand for a two count and then locked in a choke hold, trying
to get her to pass out or tap
Hail tried to sneak in a crucifix driver, but Lyons
countered it. Hail could not get a tag to Parker, with Lyons
pulling her back at every attempt. She finally leapt across
the ring and got the tag to Parker who came in and threw
elbows, sending Lyons to the outside. Petrovic got an assist
from Nattie and Lyons grabbed Parker so she and Petrovic
could land a Hart Attack.
Parker and Lyons fought in the ring until Nattie got up on
the apron. Parker knocked her off and tagged in Hail who
dropped Petrovic and made the cover to get the win.
Match Result: Jaida Parker & Thea Hail defeated Karmen
Petrovic & Nikkita Lyons
After the match, Nattie, Lyons and Petrovic beat up on
Parker and Hail. They managed to fight off the trio, sending
them scrambling while Hail and Parker celebrated.
-Miles Borne and Tavion Heights discussed their Tag Title
match tonight in the locker room. Heights said he doesn’t
know what he’ll do if they don’t win tonight.
-Back from break, NXT decided that it was important to show
us clips from the Oba Femi/Brock Lesnar match from
Summerslam. They were the same clips that you’ve seen
everywhere, including Brock’s retirement announcement.
-NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo made his way to the ring next.
Tony breathed at the camera for a few minutes before
responding to the things that he responded to last week,
most notably Grayson Waller. D’Angelo said that he will not
be a stepping stone for Waller to find his way back to the
main roster. He then called Waller “old news” and turned his
attention to Cruz Montana, calling him to the ring.
Before Montana could arrive, Waller cut him off from that
balcony that people sometimes talk from above the wall panel
people usually get thrown through. Waller said that anyone
who wants that title has to go through him. D’Angleo called
him a bitch, used the phrase “panties in a wad” and ran down
the history that he and Waller share.
D’Angelo said that Waller is nothing and he needs to be
honest with himself. Waller came back to NXT to make himself
relevant again. Waller once again referred to the “Male NXT”
roster and speculated on D’Angelo’s lack of balls. Waller
started ranting about talent “tweeting” until Cruz Montana
showed up.
Montana talked from the audience, so all three members of
the conversation were at least, I’m going to say, 40 feet
apart. Montana gave Waller props for rattling cages, but he
thinks that Waller needs to put in the work like he did.
Montana From The Block said that he doesn’t have a lot of
sympathy for Waller because he doesn’t know struggle and
hasn’t proven that he belongs in NXT.
Waller ticked the “audience’s opinion doesn’t matter” box
and said that he’s going to piss all over Montana’s fire.
D’Angelo said nothing.
Montana said that Waller only fights for himself and doesn’t
know what its like to be held accountable to the people.
D’Angelo chimed in and spoke for the viewing public, saying
that none of this matters (thanks Tony) and that they should
just go talk to Stone and make a three way for Heatwave
already. Then it was over.
I’m pretty sure this promo segment was literally cut and
pasted from last week’s show.
-In the other locker room, Wren Sinclair and Kendal Grey
talked about Sinclair’s Speed Title match. Sinclar was
feeling the pressure and Grey said that this was what they
wanted and she should just get after it.
Women’s Speed Championship Match: Wren Sinclair (c) vs
Women’s North American Champion Zaria
For some reason, Zaria got a full entrance for this match,
but Champion Sinclair did not. Anyway, Zaria has a chance to
become a double champion here and Sinclair has a chance to
not get killed by Zaria.
They started off trading arm drags until Zaria shoved
Sincalir into the corner and started throwing bombs.
Sinclair managed to knock Zaria’s head off the ropes and
then hit her with a bulldog. Sinclair sent Zaria into the
corner with a headscissor and went up top, but Zaria pulled
her down to the mat and ran her into the ringpost.
Sinclair rolled away as the clock ticked down to 3:00 and
Zarka followed with a big elbow. Zaria hit a pump kick on
the corner and went for a cover, but Sinclair kicked out at
two. Sinclair returned the kick, but stepped into a back
elbow from Zaria as the clock hit 2:00.
Sinclair started throwing shots and rolled up Zaria for two.
They traded chops with Sinclair knocking Zaria down and
hitting a facebuster. The clock hit 1:00 as Sinclair ate a
high knee. Zaria picked up Sinclair who rolleed through for
two. She suplexed Zaria and went fot a cover with 0:30 left.
Sinclair went to the top and hit a crossbody on Zaria, who
caught her and drove her through the ropes to the outside.
Zaria threw Sinclair back into the ring, but time expired,
meaning the title stays with Sinclair.
Match Result: Wren Sinclair vs Zaria went to a time limit
draw
After the match, Zaria punched out Sinclair.
-In the lunchroom, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price talked about
how they are still good after last week’s loss. Birthright
showed up so Lexis King could remind OTM that they were
crumbling. Price made a comment about the Speed Championship
and Lexis King gave him a shot at it next week. I guess
maybe Robert Stone doesn’t need to be around to make
matches.
NXT is doing this thing where they will introduce one
participant in a match, then go to commercial, then come
back with a promo segment, THEN either do the second
entrance or the other participant is just magically in the
ring. It’s very strange. I can’t say if they do this on the
main roster, because I use the 20-30 minutes main roster
entrances take to make sandwiches, run to the store or write
essays about long wrestling entrances.
-As if they heard me say that, after doing the Vanity
Project entrance then going to a break, NXT came back in the
break room, where Grayson Waller talked to Kelani Jordan who
immediately started complaining she hasn’t gotten any title
shots. Mason Rook wandered in and said Waller is going to
get his butt kicked. Then Kam Hendrix showed up and started
a fight with Rook. It looked like it was going to be good,
but they cut to the entrance for Borne and Heights.
NXT Tag Team Championship Match: The Vanity Project (Brad
Baylor & Ricky Smokes) (c) vs NXT North American Champion
Myles Borne & Tavion Heights
Anyways, Heights started things off against Baylor, handling
him pretty solidly with a power slam and a cover. That
brought in Borne who tried an Angle slam. Smokes grabbed a
blind tag off of that and Borne hit him with some
clotheslines while Booker T screamed “DTA! DTA! DTA!” for
some reason.
Smokes and Baylor started quick-tagging in and out to work
over Heights while Jackson Drake and Myka Lockwood watched
from ringside. Heights and Borne started with the quick
tagging, throwing everything they had at Baylor. Baylor
managed to get the drop on Borne, but Borne came back with a
spine buster.
Drake assisted Smokes, helping him block a backstabber from
Borne. That turned the tides enough to let Smokes and Baylor
isolate Borne in their corner and beat him up until Baylor
tried for a cover. Borne kicked out at two.
Heights tried to help, but the Ref sent him back to his
corner (possibly with no dessert) and Baylor put a headlock
on Borne. Baylor did a Rick Rude dance and punched Borne in
the face. Baylor went for a knee, but Borne countered it
into a rollup. Baylor kicked out and Smokes tagged in and he
and Baylor double teamed Borne.
Borne and Baylor traded strikes in the middle of the ring,
but Borne leapt to Heights for a tag. Heights took out
Baylor and beat up Smokes, but couldn’t get a cover. Heights
tagged in Borne for a Dropkick/Powerbomb combo on Baylor,
but again no three count.
Smokes hit a meteora on Born and they used their
Dropkick/Spinbuster combo, but Heights broke up the
subsequent cover. Borne tagged in Heights and they over took
Smokes and Baylor hitting stereo powerslams. Drake tried to
help out, but got himself and Lockwood expelled from
ringside.
Borne took Baylor over the ropes and Heights levelled Smokes
with a massive powerslam. He made the cover 1-2-3 and Borne
and Heights are the new NXT Tag Team Champions.
Match Result: Myles Borne & Tavion Heights defeated Vanity
Project
-Backstage, Jackson Drake was screaming about the lost Tag
Titles. Lockwood bumped into Keanu Carver and they either
stared each other down or looked longingly at each other. It
was kinda hard to tell.
-Back from the Netflix bumper screen where all the NXT
superstars stare directly into your soul, Lizzy Rain ran
into Izzi Dame by the road cases along with Nico of the
Culling. Lizzy beat Izzi last week and suddenly Shawn Spears
showed up and declared that all four of them have a mixed
tag match next week. So there’s that.
EK Prosper vs Keanu Carver
If I understand this correctly, Prosper won a match against
Carver back in June and since then Carver has simply hated
him for existing. This is the third match between the two
over this issue, with Prosper going 2-0.
They locked up and Carver countered a hammer lock into a
suplex. Carver charged and Prosper dodged, giving Carver a
kick to the head as he went by. Prosper hit a moonsault from
the top rope and then locked Carver in a head lock.
Prosper dropkicked Carver then ran the ropes which gave
Carver a chance to dropkick Prosper. Prosper added a third
dropkick, sending Carver to the outside. Prosper jumped at
him, Carver caught him then went to slam him on the table.
Carver hit Booker instead and apologized profusely. That let
Prosper dive onto Carver from the ring apron.
See that, kids? Never apologize or EK Prosper will land on
you.
Back in the ring, Carver caught Prosper off of a spingboard
cutter attempt. He powerslammed him and covered Prosper for
two. Carver kicked Prosper while he was down and then
suplexed him across the ring. Craver landed a backbreaker
and then stretched Prosper over his knee, like Bane to
Batman.
Prosper started fighting back, but Carver put him down with
a quick shot. Prosper came back with something of a cutter,
but Carver killed that comeback with a slam. Prosper came
back off of that with a series of shots and a superkick,
finally picking up some momentum. Prosper hit a springboard
Moonsault and a DDT then went up top for a blockbuster. He
made the cover, but Carver kicked out at two.
Carver and Prosper traded shots in the center of the ring
until Carver got a kind of German suplex in for a two count.
Crarver then mercilessly powerbombed Prosper but somehow,
Prosper kicked out at two.
Realizing that they had needed time to take the ropes off
for the Underground match, Craver went for a pop up
powerbomb, but Prosper countered it into a kick followed by
a shingin wizard. Carver dodged a moonsault, but Prosper saw
it coming and rolled him up in a small package to get the
win.
Match Result: EK Prosper defeated Keanu Carver
-In the warehouse, Dion Lennox was sad. Osiris Griffin and
Cutler James seemed concerned, but Lennox assured him that
they are still united in their hatred of Saquon Shugars.
Lennox then said that he was frustrated by Grayson Waller
calling them soft so they are going to finish it with
Shugars next week. Whatever that means.
-On TikTok, Shiloh Hill told us that he fractured his nose
during his match with Tristan Angels last week and will be
out for a while. Then he said he suspected that Kam Hendrix
was lying about his injuries. Then he talked about a
sprinter, the history of the Intercontinental Title and the
history of “poison mist” in wrestling. Then he showed us his
campfire.
-Next a tribute to Dory Funk jr played. WWE has always done
a great job with these packages and this one was no
different. Lots of classic footage and moments from Funk’s
life and career and his love of training new talent, several
of which went on to be world champions.
-In the warehouse, Robert Stone (Oh, hi Robert!) was on the
phone with a “free agent” when Cruz Montana wandered over
and Stone let him know that next week, he and Grayson Waller
will have a #1 Contender’s Match. Then he left and Tristan
Angels walked up to Montana and they said nothing of
consequence to each other before the segment ended.
-The NXT locker room them emptied and the wrestlers
surrounded the ring as Kendal Grey and Lola Vice were shown
walking towards the entrance ramp.
NXT Women’s Championship Underground Match: Kendal Grey (c)
vs Lola Vice
In an Underground Match (which isn’t really under ground,
but it would be awesome if it was) there are no ropes on the
ring and it’s surrounded lumberjack-style by the NXT locker
room. There are no pinfalls, DQ’s or count-outs and the
match can only end via knockout, ref stoppage/technical
knockout (TKO), or submission.
Vice started the match with some kicks, pushing Grey around
the ring. Grey got the first takedown, but Vice countered it
into a headlock attempt. Grey broke out and tried to put an
ankle lock on, but Vice rolled her to the outside. Grey sent
Vice into the announce table, but Vice grabbed a face lock
and Grey shoved her back into the steel steps.
Grey went to kick Vice from the apron, but Vice grabbed her
leg and pulled her face first onto the steps. Grey started
bleeding from the ear, but the Ref let the match continue.
Grey tried to stand, but fell over. The ref called for
medical. Grey insisted she was ok, but medical was concerned
about the bleeding from the ear.
More doctors were called for as Vice paced in the ring. They
wiped the blood from Grey’s ear as she looked ahead with a
thousand-yard stare. They bandaged Grey’s head up and that
snapped her back to reality. Medical let her get back into
the ring where she stumbled and fell again.
Vice threw some kicks and Grey tried to respond with
strikes, but she couldn’t get herself right. Vice hit her
with a suplex and Grey grabbed her from the mat for one of
her own. Grey seemed to be shaking things off, delivering
four German suplexes and dropping her straps.
Vice hit Grey with a knee that sent her spilling to the
outside. Vice put her back in the ring and threw some kicks,
but Grey caught one and countered it into an ankle lock.
Vice was able to reverse it into one of her own. Grey fought
out of it and they traded kicks and punches while Grey got
her bearings.
Vice hit a backfist, but Gret got thrown back into the ring
by Hank and Tank and landed on Vice in perfect position for
a sleeper hold. Grey transitioned to an arm bar. Vice threw
another backfist, but caught the ref by mistake. She put
Grey in a body scissor, but there was no referee.
Grey passed out, but no one was there to end the match. Wren
Sinclair woke Grey up and she hit a superkick on Vice. Vice
threw one of her own but missed and ended up putting Vice in
an armbar. The ref woke up just in time to see Vice tap,
giving the victory to Grey.
Match Result: Kendal Grey defeated Lola Vice
After the match Grey and Vice embraced and showed each other
respect as the show ended.
That was a good Underground match. I really don’t know how
hurt Grey is/was. She seemed to be legitimately bleeding
from the ear, which is no good, but she was able to finish
the match, hopefully for better and not worse.
