Live! from Des Moines, Iowa.
Michael Cole & Corey Graves were on commentary. Michael Cole
described last night’s main event as an “instant classic”
because the man is nothing but sound bites.
Roman Reigns Opened the Show
Roman demanded acknowledgment from the crowd, and they
chanted “OTC!” Roman went over his list of accolades for the
year, winning the Rumble in the desert to “save this place,”
beating “the old man” CM Punk, and “owning the summer.” Then
last night, he finally beat Seth Rollins, which the crowd
booed since Rollins is a home town boy. Roman let the crowd
sing Seth’s song.
LA Knight came out to interrupt. The crowd went wild for
Knight, who congratulated Roman for his win at SummerSlam.
And sure, Roman did it by himself, but he’s still a fraud.
Roman threw the rest of the Bloodline in front of him, but
Knight beat them. So now, Knight wants the same thing that
Seth got, a title shot with no Bloodline “BS.” He’ll even
wait all the way until WrestleMania if he has to!
Roman made fun of Knight’s “Wal-Mart” watch, then mocked
Knight for winning a six man tag match. Roman said you don’t
get a title shot by “b!tching and moaning” anymore, and told
Knight to get to the back of the line since he hasn’t earned
it.
Knight said he’s earned it, and when Knight earned his last
shot at Roman, it took 38 people for Roman to beat him.
Knight said when Roman can find a pair, he can come back and
Knight will “smack him back to factory settings.”
— A recap of Hell in a Cell from SummerSlam Saturday.
Je’Von Evans v. Ethan Page
Evans hit Page with a dive on the floor early, then followed
up with a crossbody block in the ring. Evans got a near fall
off a roll up and a dropkick. Page snapped the back of Evans
head into the turnbuckle to take control.
Page worked over Evans’ back. Evans fired up with right
hands. Evans hit a springboard clothesline. He went for
another springboard, but Page tripped him up then hit an arm
capture side suplex. Page went for another suplex, but Evans
shifted his weight and crashed down on top of Page.
The fight went to the floor, and Evans dumped Page into the
timekeeper’s area so he could do his run around the ring
crossbody into Page.
Evans hit the Red Dot (spinning kick) for a near fall. Page
cradled Evans with his feet on the ropes, but the ref saw
and broke that up. Page hit a Codebreaker (called the
“Confidence Breaker”) and a vertical powerslam for near
fall.
Page dumped Evans to the floor, then tried to expose one of
the turnbuckles. The ref and Page argued about that, and
Evans leap-frogged over them, then jumped to the top rope
and hit Page with an OG Cutter to get the pinfall.
Match Result: Je’Von Evans pinned Ethan Page (12:31)
After the match, Big Cass made his “shocking return” and
killed Evans with a boot and a clothesline. Cass picked
Evans up in a bearhug, shook him around for a bit, and
dumped him in a sidewalk slam that Cole called the “East
River Crossing.”
— Roman Reigns chewed out the Bloodline B-Team for losing
Saturday night. Reigns complained about LA Knight’s
challenge and Royce Keyes name. Roman said he would handle
LA Knight and left. LA Knight was on his way out of the
building with his Wal Mart watch, too.
— Cody Rhodes exercised with some kids in his suit for the
President’s Council on Physical Fitness.
— Royce Keyes told Jacob Fatu they’re still family, but Fatu
told Keys he’s just one of the boys (echoing what Roman told
Fatu earlier). Fatu will dog walk Keyes in a street fight
tonight.
The Women of the Judgment Day
Women’s World champion Liv Morgan, Women’s Intercontinental
Champion Raquel Rodriguez, and Roxanne Perez came out for
some talking time to brag about recent victories. Morgan
beat Iyo Sky, and if you’re mad about that, you can stay
mad. But Sky is the only woman on the roster to challenge
her, and Morgan doesn’t see any other challenges, so she’s
going to be the longest raining Women’s World Champion of
all time.
And hey, let’s brag on the new Women’s Intercontinental
Champion Raquel Rodriguez, and her prodigy Roxanne Perez,
too. Although Morgan had a lot less to say about them than
herself.
Sol Ruca v. Roxanne Perez (w/ Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez)
This match started during the commercial break.
Perez got a nice near fall with a rolling cradle and bridge.
Perez stomped on Ruca, but Ruca tripped her up and pounded
her with right hands. Ruca then whipped her into the corner
a bunch. Ruca hit a shotgun dropkick for a near fall. Ruca
pulled Perez up into a Romero Special. Perez tried to
regroup on the floor, but Ruca followed with a moonsault
from the apron to the middle turnbuckles to the floor.
After a commercial, Ruca yanked Pereaz off the mat and into
a German suplex. Ruca hit a shining wizard for a near fall.
Morgan demanded Roxanne get up from the ring apron. Perez
caught Ruca with a rana into a cradle for a near fall. Ruca
tried for a face buster, but Perez blocked it.
Ruca went for the Soul Snatcher, but Morgan tripped her up
right in front of the referee, who called for the dq.
Match Result: Sol Ruca won by disqualification over Roxanne
Perez (10:20ish)
Perez hit the Pop Rocks on Ruca, and Rodriguez dumped her
with a Tejana Bomb. Becky Lynch music hit and she made her
return, while Ruca disappeared. Lynch was not interested in
the Women’s Intercontinental Title. She wants Liv Morgan’s
title, since Liv went 100 days without defending her title
and has become nothing more than a glorified valet. Lynch
said Morgan has had the worst women’s title reign of all
time, and it’s not just her saying it other people are
saying it.
Morgan told Becky Lynch she should be at home taking care of
her daughter. Becky’s time has passed; Morgan’s time is now.
Lynch told Morgan she wasn’t the greatest women’s champion
in her own group, and in fact wasn’t even the greatest
women’s champion to sleep with Dominik Mysterio!
And then, Stephanie Vaquer made her return, taking out the
Judgment Day. Vaquer stalked Liv back to the ring and gave
her a proper beatdown in the ring while Becky looked on.
Vaquer wrecked the Judgement Day 1-on-3 without Becky’s
help.
Lynch and Vaquer then had a staredown, It looks like they’re
going to have to go through each other before either of them
gets a shot at Liv.
— Brock Lesnar tribute video, because he may or may not be
retried.
— Oba Femi told Paul Heyman to thank him for all the nice
things Brock said about him. Heyman congratulated Oba on his
victory.
Oba Femi’s Path
Oba Femi came out, dressed in all white robes that looked
really cool. “Words cannot even describe the things that
transpired on night 1 of SummerSlam.” Come on man, that’s my
whole gig here.
Oba came out the winner on Saturday, and he and Brock have
newfound respect for one another. He thought that he Brock’s
actions were motivated by jealousy, but instead it was a
test for Oba. Oba proved that he could pass the test at
SummerSlam, and now the beast (Brock) can finally rest.
Oba will forge his own way, and will lead a new crop of
talent. The old guard will fall, and if anyone has a problem
with that, they will answer to Oba Femi.
This was a lot of words that said nothing. Corey Graves
implied that Oba still has a title shot.
The Vision came out as Oba was leaving, and Bron Breakker
had a stare down with Oba. Okay this stare down said a lot
more than Oba’s promo.
Bron Breakker (w/ Austin Theory & Maxxine Dupri) v. Joe
Hendry
Breakker apparently stared at the entrance during the
commercial break while Hendry made his way out. Breakker was
ignoring Hendry until he killed him with a Steinerline. The
impact sent Hendry out of the ring. Breakker missed a spear
on the floor and hit the stairs, which I didn’t need. Hendry
tossed Theory over the announce table, then went back in the
ring and got speared out of his shoes by Breakker for the
pinfall.
Match Result: Breakker squashed Hendry dead (1:39).
Breakker stormed off, and then Theory jumped Hendry and beat
him up some more. Tozawa made the save and chased Theory
off.
Breakker should have killed everyone in this segment.
Hendry, Theory, Tozawa, Michael Cole, Corey Graves.
Everybody.
— Jackie Redmond asked Big Cass why he attacked Je’Von
Evans. It took 8 years for Cass to dig his way out of rock
bottom. Nothing personal, Cass is just hear to stack bodies.
Evans as just the first, and he won’t be the last.
Chad Gable Deserves It
Chad Gable came out to the ring to lead the crowd in goofy
overhead clapping and get a chant of “You Deserve It!” Gable
thanked Penta for being a fighting champion, and said he was
cementing his legacy as the greatest luchador in the history
of this business. Gable also thanks the fans for sticking
with him for 10 years. And for sticking with him when he was
“Shorty G.” Yeah, that was rough for all of us.
Gable stole the line from Shawshank Redemption about
crawling through a river of crap and coming out clean. Which
I mean, if you’re gonna steal, steal from the best.
Penta came out. He told Gable they stole the show last
night, and he was here to give Chad his flowers. Penta said
Gable had his respect, and that he was a true luchador.
This brought out Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh, and
Dominik took issue with Gable being a luchador. Mysterio is
the AAA Champion and the best Mysterio “of allll time (said
just like Liv says it).” McDonagh said the best match of
Chad’s life was a match he lost. And Penta just lost to that
guy, so what does that make him?
Mysterio spoke some Spanish (which drew boos), then told
Gable he was just keeping his title warm. The Judgment Day
is collecting all the gold, ad they can fight anytime. Since
now is a time…
JD McDonagh & Dominik Mysterio v. Chad Gable & Penta
Joined in progress after a commercial break. Gable got a
near fall with a double underhook suplex and bridge. Gable
overhead suplexed Mysterio into the turnbuckles. Penta got
the tag, and McDonagh caught him with a knee to the back
from the outside so the heels could take control.
McDonagh got a near fall after a nice snap suplex. Penta got
the tag to Gable, who hit both Mysterio & McDonagh with a
flying clothesline off the top. The heels dropped to the
floor, and Penta followed him out with a tope con hilo.
Penta tossed Dominik into the ring and an Angle Slam from
Gable for a near fall. Gable tried to suplex Mysterio on the
floor, but McDonagh broke that up. McDonagh hit Gable with a
headbutt, then backdrop suplexed him on the floor.
After a commercial, McDonagh got a near fall on Gable after
a standing moonsault. They fought up to the top rope, and
Gable headbutted McDonagh down, then dove off the top with
another headbutt.
Tags were made on both sides, and Penta caught Dom with a
step up rana and a tilt-a-whirl slam. Penta hit the Penta
Driver, but McDonagh broke up the pin attempt. Penta set up
Dom for a moonsault from Gable. Dom got his foot up, but
Gable grabbed Dom’s leg and put him in the Anke lock.
McDonagh broke that up.
Penta sent McDonagh to the floor, then hit him with a
Destroyer on the floor. Mysterio grabbed the hammer for the
ring bell and put it in his boots. Mysterio went for the
619, but Gable blocked it, then pulled the hammer out of
Dom’s boot. While the ref dealt with the hammer, Penta
smacked Dominik with the Intercontinental Title belt, and
Gable hit Chaos Theory (rolling cradle into a German suplex
and bridge) and got the pinfall.
Match Result: Chad Gable & Penta defeated JD McDonagh &
Dominik Mysterio when Gable pinned Mysterio (11:01ish).
— Bron Breakker asked Paul Heyman where Oba Femi was, since
he was going do do something about Oba getting in his face.
Heyman didn’t understand why Bron thought he’d know where to
find Oba. “Oh, I thought that was your new best friend?”
While this was going on, Adam Pearce and Lyra Valkyria were
having a conversation in the background.
Jacob Fatu v. Royce Keys in a Street Fight
The bell rang and immediately there was a weak “We want
tables!” chant from the crowd. Graves explained how Keyes
and Fatu trained at Rikishi and Gangrel’s school, which is
why they have such a close relationship.
Fatu floored Keyes with an elbow, then clotheslined him to
the floor. Fatu followed with a tope through the ropes, and
Keyes crashed into the announce desk. The chant for tables
started to pick up a little bit, but otherwise the crowd was
very quiet for this. Keys went for the table (which the
crowd reacted to), but Fatu cut him off and put the table
back under the ring.
The crowd booed, then went back to being quiet.
Fatu said he had no choice and kept beating on Keys. Fatu
charged into a clothesline from Keys, then shouted about how
Fatu was supposed to be his brother. Keys then power slammed
Fatu through the ring barricade into the ring announcer’s
area.
Keys got the the table in the ring. Fatu tossed Keys over
the commentary table. Fatu pulled some chairs out from
underneath the ring. Fatu clawed at Keys eyes, then tossed
some more chairs into the ring.
Keys flew off the announcer’s table and hit Fatu with a
clothesline. Keys tossed Fatu into the ring steps. Keys
tossed some more chairs into the ring.
Now there’s like a dozen chairs in the ring. The crowd then
chanted “one more chair!” Okay, that’s clever.
Keys whacked Fatu with a kendo stick. Keys propped up a Slim
Jim table. Fatu got the stick and used it to wear out Keys.
Fatu told Keys he should have stayed out of the Bloodline.
Keys suplexed some chairs that Fatu had set up for a near
fall. The crowd chanted “this is awesome.” Really?
Fatu hit an implant DDT for a near fall. Fatu went to the
top. Keys threw a chair at his head, then followed him up.
Keys hit an avalanche powerslam into the chairs for a near
fall.
Keys got rid of a bunch of the chairs. Fatu hit a
superkick, then ran into a spinebuster. Keys charged at
Fatu, who caught him with a pop-up Samoan Drop into the
table. Fatu hit a “Money Moonsault” (best moonsault ever),
then locked in the Tongan Death Grip. Keys couldn’t fight
his way out of the hold.
Match Result: Jacob Fatu defeated Royce Keys via ref
stoppage (13:18).
The referee corps came out to try and pull Fatu off of Keys.
They got Keys a brief moment of respite, but Fatu went back
on the attack. Keys was coughing up blood after being locked
in the Tongan Death Grip a second time. Fatu hit Keys with a
hip attack, then wrapped a chair around his head. Adam
Pearce and the gaggle of geeks tried to keep Fatu from
killing Keys. It didn’t work, and Fatu launched a hip attack
into the chair wrapped around Keys head.
Keys was dead in the corner, spitting up blood.
Roman Reigns music played, and Roman came and gave Fatu his
approval from the entrance stage.
After the credits, Rey Mysterio met up with Roman in
gorilla. Rey had some AAA business to run past Roman (who
didn’t know Rey was in charge of AAA until he told him), and
they left together.
