And kick it shall! With the Great American Bash in our
rearview mirror tonight we can look forward to a partial AAA
invasion as three of AAA’s stars arrive on NXT. Also in that
light, Karmen Petrovic is part of the new Perros Del Mal
faction in AAA. We will see if she is on her own against
Jaida Parker or if her friends are in the house.
But first, newly minted NXT Women’s Champion Kendal Grey
made her way to the ring to address the NXT audience. Grey
talked about her history from high school to Evolve. She
said that she felt like the dropped the ball anytime she had
a shot at the NXT Women’s title. She said that the title
proves that she can hang with the NXT women and promised to
wrestle like a champion. Grey said that she’s at home in the
ring and everyone’s going to find out that they can’t keep
up with Kendal.
Then, Grey’s BFF, Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair came
out with a little cake to celebrate her friend’s title win.
Now, if you’ve ever seen wrestling before, you know that
cake is going into someone’s face, but it wasn’t Sinclair.
Kelani Jordan came to the ring instead.
Jordan said she deserves a shot at the title and mentioned
that she was viciously assaulted by a lunatic at Great
American Bash. Said lunatic was Tatum Paxley who rose from
the crowd like the Great Pumpkin and chased Jordan to the
back. Grey and Sinclair ate their cake, after having it.
The Scene then switched to backstage where Keanu Carver
stood over AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo De Vikingo,
holding a dreaded clanky pipe. Vikingo was clutching his
knee as Rook shouted something about EK Prosper and Robert
Stone screamed “What are you doing?!”
Hitting Vikingo with a pipe, obviously, Robert.
-Back from a break, Izzi Dame was backstage talking to
herself. Then Zaria wandered by and Dame said that she
wanted Zaria’s title too. Then there was a wierd synth riff
heard from the women’s locker room.
Robert Stone emerged from his office saying he had to cancel
the the AAA Latin American Championship match as Kelani
Jordan stormed over. She complained about Tatum Paxley and a
frustrated Stone said “Fine! You can fight her tonight in
the main event!” Stone then stumbled into Keanu Carver and
said that he was going to face EK Prosper in place of
Vikingo. So, good night for Carver I guess.
NXT Tag Team Championship match: Vanity Project (c) (Brady
Baylor & Ricky Smokes) (w/ Myka Lockwood & Jackson Drake)
vs. Galeno & El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr.
Smokes and Baylor have their work cut out for them taking on
the brothers from the legendary Wagner lucha libre family.
Also Galeno is about twice the size of Baylor and Smokes put
together.
Galeno started off against Smokes who was immediately thrown
across the ring. Baylor called for a tag and shoved Galeno
into the corner where Wagner grabbed a blind tag. He sent
Baylor out of the ring along with Smokes and then dove on
them both.
Wagner tagged Galeno back in so they could double team
Smokes. Smokes managed to get a clothesline in, giving he
and Baylor some momentum. Smokes went for Wagner’s mask but
the ref warned him off. Vanity Project double teamed Wagner
again for a two count.
Smokes knocked Galeno off the apron and then drove his knees
into Wagner’s back. Smokes suplexed Wagner and grabbed a
headlock so that the CW could come back from commercial.
Wagner made a hot tag to Galeno who ran in and cleaned house
with both Smokes and Baylor. He laid out Baylor and nailed
him with a big splash off the ropes. Smokes tried to help,
but Galeno threw him back out. Drake tried to cause a
distraction but Galeno ignored it and took it out on Smokes.
Wagner tagged in and nailed Smokes with an assisted
dropkick. Baylor tagged in and he and Smokes hit a double
team dropkick for a two count. Baylor tried to throw hands
with Wagner, which didn’t go well for him. Galeno tagged in
nailed him with an upside down suplex.
Wagner tagged back in and climbed Galeno’s shoulders to
deliver a huge splash. Off of a distraction from Drake,
Smokes made a tag and he and Baylor dropped Wagner with a
double stomp to retain their titles.
Match Result: Vanity Project defeated Galeno and El Hijo de
Dr Wagner Jr
Back in Robert Stones office, Birthright at OTM were both
demanding Tag Title shots. Then DarkState wandered in and
demanded the same. Then Sean Legacy joined in the begging.
Stone put them all in a fatal four way for next week to
determine at number one contender team.
Mason Rook vs. Jackson Drake (w/Myka Lockwood & Brad Baylor
& Ricky Smokes)
Vanity Project never left the ring after the tag match, so
Jackson Drake was already waiting for Mason Rook when we
came back from a commercial break. In case you haven’t seen
Mason Rook before, he’s big. Also bad. And he threatens to
bodyslam your Father. Seems like a pretty cool guy.
About twice the size of Drake, Rook took control off the
top, throwing the smaller man around. Rook chopped Drake
“back to high school” according to Vic Joseph. Then, Booker
T’s phone rang and for some reason he answered it. Kam
Hendrix was facetiming and he cut a quick promo and everyone
just let him.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Any hoo, back in the match Rook delivered a crushing senton
to Drake. He set Drake up in the corner for some more chops
and went for a cover, but Drake kicked out at two.
Commentary was talking about everything but the match as
Rook locked a full nelson on Drake. Drake got to the ropes
to break the hold and then Rook suplexed him. Rook charged
and caught a foot from Drake. Drake tried a stomp, but Rook
didn’t fall down. Drake went up top and hit a missile
dropkick that knocked him down for a two count.
Booker and Vic rejoined the match as Drake put on a face
lock, but Rook tried to roll it into a pin. Drake kicked out
and then kicked Rook into the corner. Drake tried the
facelock again, bridging it this time, but Rook got to his
feet and hit a spinebuster off the ropes.
Rook went for a splash, but Drake got his knees up and then
nailed a cutter. Rook kicked out at two and hit a back body
drop off the ropes. He hit a cannonball in the corner, but
Drake kicked out of the ensuing cover at two.
Drake hit a springboard stomp off the second rope, but it
still wasn’t enough to put Rook away. Rook came back with a
blue thunder bomb, but could only get a two. Drake countered
a spin into a DDT, but Rook wasn’t close to giving up.
Drake then countered a powerbomb attempt into a destroyer.
He hit a poisonrana, but Rook popped back up and turned him
around with a clothesline. Rook nailed Drake with a sit out
powerbomb, but somehow Drake kicked out.
Smokes caused a distraction allowing Drake to hit a
backstabber and then Lockwood held Rooks feet so Drake could
get the three count.
Match Result: Jackson Drake defeated Mason Rook
In the locker room, EK Prosper and Tate Wilder discussed
Prosper’s new opponentm Keanu Carver, now that “Viking-o”
was out of action. Prosper seemed worried, but Wilder bigged
him up and sent him out.
-back from break we checked in with Robert Stone who was
talking to Kali Armstrong about her lack of title shots.
Stone advised her that actions speak louder than words and
she left.
EK Prosper vs Keanu Carver
I’m not going to lie, I was really looking forward to seeing
Prosper and Vikingo, so I’ll do my best to hid my
disappointment. Carver’s whole deal so far seems to be “Why
EK? Why not me?” which he could say about, well anyone
really.
The bell rand and Prosper dropkicked Carver. From there,
Carver took over with heavy strikes and slams. Prosper
fought his way out of an arm hold threw another dropkick,
staggering Carver. Carver charged and Prosper pulled down
the top rope, sending him out. Prosper dove onto him and hit
a tornado DDT on the outside.
Prosper threw Carver back into the ring and delivered a high
frog splash. Carver kicked out of the cover at two though.
Prosper sent him to the corner and then punched him exactly
10 times before Carver pulled him down and tossed him with a
belly-to-back suplex.
Carver started beating on Prosper with knees and fists. He
ran Prosper into the corner but Prosper came up swinging.
Carver sent him right back down and then delivered a back
breaker off the ropes.
Carver tossed Prosper the width of the ring with a German
suplex and then put on an arm lock. Carver then sent Prosper
off the ropes and Prosper came back with a superkick. Carver
clotheslined him about it and then threw him across the ring
again.
Carver hoisted Prosper up on his shoulders for a power slam,
but Prosper countered it into a stunner. Prosper started to
power up and hit a spring board moonsault. He went up top
and dropped a leg on Carver from the top turnbuckle.
Prosper sent Carver out of the ring with a super kick and
went to dive on him, but Carver caught him and then dropped
him face first on the announce table. Carver threw Prosper
back into the ring and then Tank ran in and threw Carver
through the LED barricade.
Carver beat the count back into the ring, but Prosper laid
him out and hit a moonsault from the top rope. He quickly
made the pin and wn the match.
Match Reslut: EK Prosper defeated Keanu Carver
-Once again, back in Robert Stone’s office, Kendal Grey was
asking about her next challenger and Stone said he had a
four way planned next week. Then Nattie and her crew came in
and talked about how Karmen Petrovic is going to beat Jaida
Parker tonight. Nattie then said she wanted a title match
because, hey, why not? So Stone gave her a shot at the NXT
Women’s title next week. It’s just that easy.
Jaida Parker vs. Karmen Petrovic (w/Nattie & Nikkita Lyons)
Parker went to lock up off the top, but Petrovic shoved her
off. Parker dropped her with a toe-hold and then went for a
waist lock. Petrovic fought out of it, but Parker hit her
with a back breaker and then a double stomp in the corner.
Petrovic slid out to regroup with Nattie and crew and then
grabbed Parker’s ankle to dump her on the apron. Petrovic
sent Parker to the corner for some punches and a back elbow.
Parker came back with some hard right hands, but Petrovic
landed Eat De Feet for a two count.
Parker came back with a spinning elbow and then a takedown
into a Rings of Saturn. Petrovic grabbed the ropes to break
the hold then slid out again. Parker came out to get her and
Petrovic distracted the ref so that Nattie and co could beat
on her.
Back in the ring, Parker got mad and nailed Petrovic with a
hip attack and then a powerbomb to win the match.
Match Result: Jaida Parker defeated Karmen Petrovic
It was very strange to me that there was no mention of
Perros Del Mal, but maybe Petrovic exists in two different
universes?
Backstage, Tatum Paxley talked with Shiloh Hill while she
was warming up. Hill talked about getting his tooth knocked
out (did you know he was missing a tooth) then Paxley talked
about how alike they are before she left. Nico approached
Hill and said he didn’t regret kicking her out of the
Culling, then made a tooth comment becasue, you see, Hill is
missing a tooth.
In the locker room Sean Legacy let his tag partner Doian Van
Dux know that they have a place in the fatal four way next
week.
The scene changed to Wren Sinclair talking to Miles Borne.
Tavion Heights interrupted and they talked about the show so
far. Then Borne left. Then it was over?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ again.
Next up, fresh off a successful defence of his NXT
Championship (and signing with the Islanders), Tony D’Angelo
came to the ring to address the crowd. He talked about being
worried about his burned eye, but he signed all the papers
to be able to defend his title.
D’Angelo said that he’s willing to sacrifice his health to
defend his title. He said he is done wth Naraku and his eye
is going to make a full recovery. D’Angelo then said there
wasn’t anyone in the locker room who would be able to take
his title.
As he was leaving, Kendal Grey came out again and the two
champions fist-bumped on the ramp. D’Angelo left, but came
stumbling back into the arena. Naraku followed with a chair,
beating D’Angelo back to the ring before Medical staff (and
Kendal Grey?) separated them and we went to break.
Back from break, footage from backstage showed Naraku
misting D’Angelo before assaulting him with the chair.
Kelani Jordan Vs Tatum Paxley
Paxley failed to win the Women’s North American Championship
at Great American Bash, but looks to right the ship here in
this grudge match to settle her hours-old blood feud with
Jordan.
They aggressively locked up off the top with neither one
coming out on top. Paxley got her head bounced off the
turnbuckle while commentary talked to Kendal Grey about her
big win. Booker T then gave his analysis of the match at the
Great American Bash. Booker and Vic Joseph continued
showering praise on Grey and encouraging her in her match
next week against Nattie.
Rudely, a wrestling match interrupted the interview as
Paxley grabbed a headlock. Jordan broke out of it and ate a
dropkick. Jordan then went for a moonsault off the ropes,
but Paxley dodged and it.
Enough of that ring action though as Kali Armstrong ran in
and laid out Kendal Grey. Vic Joseph and Booker T were
beside themselves at this turn of events. They took Grey
from ringside leaving Booker and Vic nothing to talk about
except the match happening.
In said match, Jordan and Paxley traded crucifix pin
attampts with neither getting further than two. Jordan
slapped on a foot lock, but Paxley broke out of it. Jordan
stomped her ankle in retaliation. Paxley rolled under the
rope clutching her ankle as Jordan continued working it
around the ropes.
Paxley fought back and hit a big blockbuster, but we didn’t
get to see much of it because they had to replay the attack
on Kendal Grey. It reminded me of the Yankees when for no
reason, the camera would pan over just to see what Derek
Jeter was doing in the middle of the game.
Anyway, Jordan took a kick to the stomach as Paxley started
to fire up. She laid out Jordan over the ropes then hit an
insiguri. Paxley went for a cover, but Jordan wasn’t done
yet. Paxley went up to the top rope, but missed on the 450.
Jordan went up for a crossbody and missed on that too.
Paxley hit a Fisherwoman buster, but only got a two count.
She tried to put Jordan in a crossface, but Jordan got out
of it and stomped her ankle some more. Jordan dropped Paxley
with a vicious right and went up top. Paxley tried to kick
her off, but Jordan caught her leg.
Paxley landed the second attmpt at a kick and then went for
Cemetary Drive, but Jordan took her down wth a dragonscrew.
Jordan then planted Paxley with a modified Angle Slam and
then a split-legged moonsault. Jordan then made the pin and
won the match.
Match Result: Kelani Jordan defeated Tatum Paxley
After the match, Paxley was attacked by someone who is “the
most talked about woman in the industry today.” She’s a
force of nature, an act of God. Who is she? I dunno,
Commentary talked about her for a good 60 seconds without
saying her name.
